Re: Dylan Shiel
We can’t give up anything for him as previous poster alluded to.
His salary has to be dirt cheap, otherwise find a rookie or a kid playing VFA, SANFL or WAFL.
Cal Twomey and Riley Beveridge discussed the possibility that other clubs might target Mich Owens and offer him the opportunity to play midfield. We better not lose a guy like Mich Owens, because we want to bring in Dylan Shiel to play as a mid.

Re: Dylan Shiel
I suspect we are using the minimum amount of our salary cap space and we need to spend $ so that we don’t go below. On the other hand, Essendon are probably in danger of overspending. I suspect that Essendon give us Shiel and one of their picks as a thank you for dumping salary.

Re: Dylan Shiel
The bigger picture needs to be taken into consideration. If Shiel is on the list and he’s fully fit it means he takes the place of a developing player on the list. It means Ross Lyon gets a short term sugar hit at the expense of the team’s growth.bakes wrote: ↑Thu 18 Jul 2024 12:45pm I suspect we are using the minimum amount of our salary cap space and we need to spend $ so that we don’t go below. I want Clark and Windhager working together with Henry and Garcia and Mich Owens in the middle, plus opportunities need to be provided for Hastie and possibly Hotton

Re: Dylan Shiel
But you still need senior players around. It’s a long season. If Crouch can’t get on the park and it’s a toss up between Shiel and Seb Ross, then I say thanks Seb for being a great servant of the club however there’s no longer a spot for you.Scollop wrote: ↑Thu 18 Jul 2024 12:53pmThe bigger picture needs to be taken into consideration. Re: Dylan Shiel
If it’s a choice between Seb Ross and Dylan Shiel, I’d keep Sebby. He is St Kilda person. The other guy is a mercenary
How many senior players do you need? We’ve just given Hill a 3 year contract extension. We have a leadership group of Steele, Wilkie, Sinclair and Marshall. We have Mason Wood and Hunter Clark.
Max King will be in his 7th year next year. Higgins and Butler have been around longer. Owens, NWM and Windhager will be in their 4th years in 2025.
How are we going to build some culture and create future leaders in this place if we keep bringing in players for their seniority?

Re: Dylan Shiel
He’ll be 32 next season
He’s spent half this season in the VFL
He luckily choose elsewhere in 2018, he can stay elsewhere

Re: Dylan Shiel
Depends on what we have to give up to get him. 4th rounder, full medical and $500k per for two years? Maybe.

Re: Dylan Shiel
Of course we are into him, most player managers would create a media narrative that a crap poor and desperate club like St Kilda are into him in the hope we are incompetent and desperate enough to fall in love with the idea and help extend a revenue stream into the bank account of the player manager.

Has to be Gresh doing a piss take.
And Gresh never struck me as a deep thinker, but this isn't bad as an up yours goes.

Re: Dylan Shiel
"Shiel be right, mate." The real St Kilda motto (we should be used to it by now).
... even if the player is in the twilight of his career, no matter what it might end up costing us, things will work out for the best. They always do.

Re: Dylan Shiel
Unless DS was a giveaway and came on minimum wage I would find it hard to give the rumour any credence, but doesn't the rumour on face value imply DS is considered more value than Hind who we recently let go and who is getting a regular gig with the injectors. Computer says no/reboot rumour app.

Re: Dylan Shiel
Look at all the old hacks we have recruited in recent years. The one thing they all have in common....is they are gone.
We could have been recruiting and developing young kids instead. So Shiel...eff off.
What have the druggies ever given us that has not blown up in our face FFS.

Re: Dylan Shiel
Only if he's dirt cheap and on a year-to-year performance-based contract ... given that Shiel's only played 3 games this year - but on the positive side, he has an 18.7 disposal average with only 50% game time!
Coming on as an experienced sub, perhaps - for a 10 possession per quarter contribution (or injection in his case)?
