Midfield Production

Midfield production

AFL inside mids need to be winning the footy 25->30 times even 30+ per game not 20->25 definitely not 15->20

Crouch is high production - not playing
Steele gets around 25 and is solid
Sinclair is off HB but his numbers drop when he goes inside
Mattaus is doing well now
Seb used to be but his numbers have dropped significantly
Jones not finding it enough
Clark averages about 18
Dow - nope
Windhager - nope

We need some ball magnets and a power mid
Jagga Smith
Sam Lalor

Forget LDU he is contracted and we’d need to give up the above players to get him

I thought after last year's finals, that we needed to cull the midfield to go further up the ladder. This year apart from recent promising signs from Pou, the rest are just meh and treading water, only just doing enough, and still ball butcherers. Unless the club make some very ruthless and maybe unpopular calls at the end of the season, we will be hanging around the bottom part of the ladder for a long while.

Clark and Dow are the ones that don’t win enough footy

Clark gets 21 as an inside mid on a wet night and turns it over a lot and is lauded on here?

One of our best last night, if we had another Clark we would win.

Not just here.

Commentary and bests listed online.

Most rate him higher than you do, including other clubs which have attempted to recruit him.

Clark was extremely clean in those conditions actually didn’t just slam it on the boot.

I wish some of them did just slam it on the boot, instead of mucking around with it. That turnover in the third quarter when we seem to have some momentum was horrendous. Little dinky kicks and handballs in the wet conditions

Clark had 21 possessions - not enough for an inside mid

He went at 42% disposal efficiency- poor

I thought he was OK, but he hangs onto the ball a second too long and then is under pressure in disposal

He is averaging 18 this year - my point is that isn’t good enough as an inside mid

BTW
Huge Clark fan, very courageous, tough and talented player
I’d play him at HB with stints in the middle

Clark offers a point of difference - watch his deft taps touches at bottom of pack he creates stuff and was clean
It’s why most footy pundits with half brain rated his game
Jones ….not so much tries hard just headless chook lacks any composure

Yeah that’s how I see it
It’s why I’m not upset about losing against crows in shyte conditions in a nothing game cause 24 is gone
It’s about next year picks etc and we will absolutely have to give to get …it’s why we out a price internally in Battle and that’s very close to B1 IF Hawks want to go beyond then that’s ok
Need a midfield and ones that can run/burst from stoppages desperately

You can't criticise Clark's DE and praise Marshall as best on ground in the same post.

Marshall went at 25% DE

I actually agree that Marshall was bog. I think the effort and the ability to win contest and win clearances is why you rate these guys

In the wet you just need to gain territory sometimes. Chaos ball and dirty ball forward means you put pressure on opposition. Our problem was that a few of our players (Henry, Bonner, Wilson, Butler, Shoey etc.) just didn't put their head over it

Clark only attended 6 centre bounces. He won 2 centre clearances. That's pretty bloody good.

Sinclair was in at centre bounce 16 times for zero centre clearances. Pou was in 13 times for zero. Steele 15 for 1 cc.

All these guys did ok around the ground at stoppages but Clark had the highest clearance numbers

Potted?

Just reviewed his performance and stated his stats

21 possessions at 42% efficiency
That’s 9 effective disposals

Another fact, he has played mid in every game since returning and is averaging 18ppg

Personally I love Hunter as a player, but I take rose coloured glasses off when reviewing performance

I just think he hasn’t got the aerobic power to be an inside mid.
