Interesting players on the list

Post: # 2069844Post B.M »

Players that aren’t in the starting line up, or have not been given opportunity (probably not good enough?)

Core senior players
Steele 28, Marshall 29, Crouch 30(inj), Sinclair 29, Wilkie,
28, Hill 31, Butler 28, Wood 30, Webster 31, Howard 28

Older and on the way out/depth
Campbell 32, Ross 31, Membrey 30, Jones 29, Cordy 27, Hayes 28

Mid age players in best 22
Battle 25, King 24, Clark 25, Higgins 25, Henry 23

Mid age players who are fringe
Dow 24, Paton 25, Byrnes 23, Sharman 23, Bonner 27

Young players who are best 22 or future best 22
Wanganeen Milera 21, Owens 21, Caminiti 20, Windhager 21, Phillipou19, Schoenmaker 19, Garcia 19, Hastie 19, Wilson 18.

So the interesting group?! Haven’t played or even close to playing
O’Connell 21, Heath 21, McLennan 20, Hall 22, Hotton 19, Van Es 19, Keeler 19, Allison 22

I’d
Expect at least 5 draftees to come in, maybe 6
Expect a free agent to leave
1 Rookie to be selected
One trade
And a DFA

9 changes or thereabouts

Red likely to go.
Battle to decide i f he stays or goes.
Crouch will depend on his knee and how bad it is.
Hall, I think is just too early to say as has not been at the club long enough.

Hayes inability to see him stay on the park, and that both Sharman and Caminiti look to have futures, should see Hayes gone. Rather shame as talent and attitude wise I think he was good enough to have made it.

Cordy is just not good enough. Might as well look for another young back who might become good enough. Being just depth is not a good enough reason to keep him when were not true contenders.

The big issue is the second ruck, support for Marshall.

Hayes albeit undersized had a role there, but he’s been injured and hasn’t played.

Last thing I want is to bring in a gop ruckman like Pittonet and make Marshall a forward, when his best footy is clearly as a ruckman. And he’s an elite ruckman.

Crouch - is interesting, is he done?

Two most interesting players on the list
Keeler - is he the forward-ruck we are looking for?
Van Es - has he got ability? He is key back size.
Then there’s Hotton
Not sure his ability, he’s playing in starvation corner with Hall
Hall
Could he be Kane Lambert or is he an average VFL mid/forward?

We are crying out for a second ruck/forward - Keeler not being groomed for that role?
Van Es - injuries have limited him

On the ruck/forward position, SOS has this covered with his son. If Jack doesn't get too many games with Carlton, he'll probably... reluctantly come to St Kilda

If that happens

I will not support StKilda anymore

It will actually prove that we are an amateur club

Where does Collard fit in your plans, or have you already delisted him?

My 2 cents worth

Consideration needs to be given to the balance of youth and experience who can make youth better . This is something we cannot assess from the stands , so very much a guess.

Delisted or traded:
Allison, Jones, Membrey(personally would keep but just a gut feel ) Hotton, Hayes (inj) Mclennan
Crouch will have to be doubtful base don his knee issues this season.

Campbell - probably gone if can be replaced with a VFL / Sanfl ruck as need 3 on the list

If Crouch goes i think Ross stays

Cordy could be dependent on Battle decision. Flexibility to play either end helps.

Paton is another who may make or break over the next month or so.
That give you between 6-8 changes which is about the limit.I Could see a Collingwood, Melbourne or Geelong willing to give up 2nd rounder for Membrey as all in window and need a bigger forward to assist ( assuming Hawkins done) .
