That is loser mentality. You can only win the games in front of you and giving up because you had to play a Vic team in SA then GWS in Canberra in the first 8 weeks is rubbish.

Round 12 last year Carlton was 14th and GWS was 15th, both with 4 wins. By round 24 they were 5th and 7th and on their way to losing preliminary finals by a combined 17 points.

Are you denying draws are uneven and we did not had a difficult draw to begin the season?

Ridiculous

Victim mentality coming out again.

4 points at the start of the year is worth the same amount as 4 points at the end of the year.

If Collingwood got the run home we are you’d be complaining about the dream run home into finals the AFL were giving them!

In 2023 we had one of, if not the, softest draw in the comp.

Over the course of a season the draw is as even as it can be. For us the start was slightly harder and the end is considerably easier. Good sides win anywhere, the real issue is we are not a good side yet.

You are complaining like a teenager in high school. "Miss, I couldn't get my term assignment done because I had to do a couple of extra shifts at Macca's in week 2 "

If you want to attack a post, go right ahead champ, but lay of attacking the poster as it's against the rules.

Thanks for the warning. I feel like I was attacking the argument by equating B.Ms view of 'our draw is rigged by Laura Kane because of the first few weeks being tough' with a teenager saying they couldn't complete an assignment because they had a busy week when it was first handed out. As in both instances there there is sufficient time to make the grade, but a focus on a narrow period at the start is an attempt to draw attention away from that fact.

If B.M thought I was calling them a teenager and felt that was a personal attack, I will try to make my point clearer for them next time.

I didn’t say the draw was rigged, I said it was uneven

Everyone agrees with that, it’s a fixture, not a draw. A draw would indicate randomness. Laura Kane would have little to do with fixturing the games ( she’s no mathematician!) other than to give the conditions that the big clubs play each other twice and the get the better time slots. It’s their business model, to make as much money as they can regardless of inequity.

We had a difficult draw at the start of the season, no doubt!

That difficult early draw can set the tone for the season. Poor start, confidence erodes and we are 14th

Last year we had a softer draw hence the good start, confidence grew - ultimately ended up us play

I thought all that is pretty obvious

Every draw is lumpy, but ultimately they are as fair as they are any year. But you are blaming Laura Kane as if this is some new occurrence? Or are you now acknowledging that she has little to do with actual fixturing?

Last year we had a good start and a crap back end, ultimately limping in to finals and bombing out. Alternatively GWS had a rough start and picked up form over the year and stormed in to finals and finished 2 points short of a final. I know which I would prefer. Or maybe the draw doesn't really matter and good sides win regardless of when our where they are playing.

If you want an insight into the game at the executive level then I thoroughly recommend reading the Boys Club by Michael Warner.

Blaming the draw is just loser mentality.

We lost games because we were the second best team on the day.

Like it or not, the draw had an impact because it affected preparation and training.

Both that and missing Crouch all season have had an effect. If not for these factors, we'd probably be sitting on 9-10 wins right now.

Even if the draw was completely random it would still be uneven, possibly even more so.

The best teams are always there at the pointy end of the season, I don't think the draw has ever hindered that.

Don't think the best team wins every year though as a result of a lop sided draw.

I must admit I tend to get more pleasure from watching local footy these days, I have two clubs, one in Melbourne and one in Cairns and I have more fun attending games with my local clubs. The comps are not compromised like the AFL comp, the footy experience is pure, the social aspect is more closely aligned with how footy was when we played at Moorabbin.

The AFL game will always have a constant supply of customers enter the market at the early ages but the game doesn't derive the same pleasure it once did for us folk who remember it before the game was overly commercialised.

Yes. There is a Utube clip showing the strong correlation between Sydney's winning start to the season and the rest periods between games compared to other sides, including it having 2 byes before some others had one. Its not a definite causal relationship but it suggests a very strong coincidence. Be interesting to see how they go as that initial advantage gets diluted.
Conversely Saints had one of the worst draws in terms of time between games/travel requirements compared to opponents.
Might also suggest Freo's performance so far has been even better than generally appreciated.

She is an incompetent DEI appointment.

She has a Law Degree from Victoria Uni!!! So she didn't get into Melbourne or Monash. Despite having a degree from an Institution not really taken seriously in the legal profession. She manages to get a job as a junior solicitor in a Law firm specialising in representing victims of institutional childhood abuse. Soon after she led Nth Melb's application for an AFLW team and that's about it. Next thing she's 2IC in the AFL.

A DEI appointment indeed and she is proving to be a midwitted middle manager of limited ability.
