Coaches votes Round 17 vs Swans

Post: # 2069420Post Scollop »

They're not out yet

My prediction for Saints players

Top vote getter will be Phillipou. Closely followed by Wilkie. Steele, Henry and Marshall should poll some votes

At long odds, maybe Byrnes and Dougal Howard

Wilkie will probably get about 10
Warner about 8
Phillipou about 6

Others who may get a vote
Marshall, Nasiah, Higgins, Steele, Heeney, Florent

Wow. While Phillipou was great, I thought Henry was even better.

Fascinating votes. Both coaches have Mattaes BOG, but totally disagreed re the other votes, with 8 different players polling. Pleased we got 21 of the 30 votes.

Goes to show that it's biased voting. Both of Heeney's goals were from dubious umpiring decisions. Horse is supporting Heeney so that Heeney stays on top of the leaderboard in the Coaches Association voting.

Lyon gave Hill votes (like he's done in the past) because he loves him. Hill had 3 contested possessions and only 2 score involvements.

Wilkie, Steele, Marshall and Sinclair and even Nasiah had better games than Bradley.

We got 18 out of 30 George. Sorry I'm ocd 8-)

Mate, HTF did Hill get more votes than Wilkie?!

Hill was average by foot, didn’t get a lot of it and made some huge errors- playing on 1 metre from an opponent!!!

That is bizarre
Ross absolutely loves his arse!

I see our s*** Captain got votes again - trade him!!!

I never give votes because I am unaware of instruction given to any individual player by the Coaching panel

That said, the pleasing games are when there are a multitude of players receiving votes from those who do engage in the process

And for example, I thought that Clark when he was on the ground was exceptional - noting he received no votes

So there you go!!

I reckon Longmire voted for Hill.

And the Saints got 21 out of 30.

It could be that Byrnes was mistaken for Hill. Same height and both fast. Even their mums would have trouble seperating them with both in the home jumper and rainbow socks.

Personally I reckon Mattaes's votes are proof positive that everything is relative. Play a surprisingly good game if you're young and fresh out of the reserves and it will get a lot more kudos than a similar game from an established star.

Hill is also lucky. He melts under pressure.

The interesting thing that I saw from the coaches votes was that apart from Phillipou, the coaches didn't double up on any other player.

Eight different players took the minor placings with both coaches playing favourite with their 3 votes.

Yep, Sydney were chasing Hill also when he crossed from Freo to Saints. Always a favourite of Longmire

And that means Lyon gave three votes to Heeney. Don't think so.

Especially considering Lyon thought 2 of Heeney’s goals were lucky and really outside of that he was only average - important contest was easily out pointed by Wilks

Mattaes Phillipou was on both Warner and Heeney at varying times in the first three quarters and he let them slip away. But he was not playing a hard tag role and was in an outside role rather than an in and under role (played by Jack Steele). In the last quarter, he was matched to Rowbottom, who played wide of him. It meant they were both free on the outside. The ball came to Mattaes Phillipou and he used it to perfection with his foot. By and large, Sydney played as if their players would always beat our players. That doesn't take into account misses for goal, including four posters - as we have found out many times in the past. Looking at the replay, I though Jack Sinclair was one of our best mainly because of his use of the ball when he got it, which he did 28 times with 16 kicks.

Untrue Steele had Heeney.
