Has never seemed ok since the shoulder dislocation. Would have been mightily embarrassed about his performance today. A few others should be as well.

He’s clearly playing as instructed, as nothing is changing, and there are no repercussions, so I just think he doesn’t fit in a Ross Lyon defensive low scoring system.

Get something for him while we still can.

I’m not sure how a guy can be better in his 3rd year than his 7th?!

He has lost all confidence

He made Zerk Thatcher look like Stephen Silvagni!

Wasn’t launching at it, leading at it, all he does is run around in circles and lose wrestles

What do you think it is BM? Because I’m kind of with you in that it can’t be that he suddenly doesn’t have talent.

Is it coaching instruction?
Lack of confidence?
Is he injured?

Every instinct in me says that he should be playing in the Nick Riewoldt style… lead to the ball and let size/reach be his advantage. Push up the ground to connect play.

I can’t for the life of me understand why he wrestles so much and doesn’t lead/play in front

He should be a mobile forward, leading at the ball, launching into packs

He is not a 105kg monster who wrestles

He should play more like Curnow and less like Hawkins

I’d definitely like to see him rotate between high and low as a forward.

At his presser RTB said they would look at playing King more in the ruck.

Maybe it's going to be a Marshall/King ruck combo rather than a Marshall/Campbell ruck combo.

RTB will have probably changed his mind by next weekend and tell King to just keep playing ring a ring a rosie.

Season 2024 is where RTB is showing the footy world his grasp of the modern game.

Play King as the 2nd ruck for the rest of the year and if he doesnt improve then trade him. The club are looking for draft picks for a quick midfield fix, we are going no where with King playing the way he is. Give him until the end of the year and nothing changes then trade him.

His contract is far too high for his output in the last few years.
I wonder when he sends his group certificate to his accountant at tax time, do the staff there print it on A3 paper, frame it and stick it on a wall as a piece of art.

He should be tried in defence.
He's not a natural forward ... that's why he's trying to play in the style of a big-bodied, one-grab forward, which he's clearly not.

I can’t defend King anymore

As someone said he made Zerk Thatcher (who was dropped a couple of weeks ago) look AA

His stats from yesterday were frightening

1st quarter donut
2nd 3 handballs all outside F50
4th 1 disposal inside F50

His first 4 games (before suspension were ok) since then he has averaged 3.37 marks and 1.62 goals per game (over 8 games)

The truth is his lack of impact yesterday killed our chances

Let’s also not forget his appalling 50m penalty for the late bump at a critical time and when Mitch had taken the intercept in the middle of the ground

He has not kicked 4 or more goals this year (and has done so 11 times in his 83 games)

Can anyone in all honesty see him kicking 4 goals anytime soon

King was the target only once in the forward 50 in the first half and Marshall had 3 goals make of that what you will.

Do you honestly believe Lyon wants him to play the way he's playing? Funny how Marshall had no problem when he played forward. Also, noticed Marshall's relentless leading when forward against Brisbane last week. What's stopping Max? I don't think there's a system that any Coach would want, that requires your main big forward to play from behind and not lead.

You're right, if he even was a bit competitive yesterday, we won.
I can see him kicking 4, if he gets his arse in front and works hard leading, again and again.

So he's been playing the last year and a half against the coaches instructions, without any reprimand, no change of position, no public criticism, no being sent to the 2s?

It just doesn't make sense.

If we are able to trade king this off season, I can’t see a situation where we lose out.

St Kilda forward Max King has been subject to some damning criticism, after being made to “look like a child” by Port Adelaide’s defence yesterday at Marvel Stadium.

But despite severely losing form he’s in talks with the Saints on a mega new deal which could see him join the rare group of players signed into the 2030s.

AFL Media reported King is “in discussions on a contract extension that would see him join the group of longest-signed players in the competition”. He is already signed until the end of 2026, when he’ll become a restricted free agent, with a five or six-year extension floated.

After the game I was a bit hot under the collar and labeled him a bust

Now that I have cooled down a bit I have had a rethink

I’m happy for the club to persevere with him and fine tune his roll, something may click

Given he has little to no support up forward it makes it extra tough.

The morons complaining about him playing from behind should take note of the last two contests he had.

You need to get to a game from time to time Curly and stop basing opinion on what you see on the Telly.

At least get the nurses to wheel you closer to the screen and turn the volume up.

I have watched him closely over the last two matches (Brisbane & PA).

How many times he allowed Payne and Dork - Hatcher to take front position without contest is astounding.

I wouldn’t trade him, but there is a deep issue there as he appears bereft of confidence and is not consistently imposing himself physically at the contest.
