Sandy game starts an hour before the seniors.
We will want our juniors to play either AFL or VFL.
So I expect Jones, and Byrnes miss out. And one of Campbell and Webster.

After how well Campbell and Roman went against Brisbane you would think they would persist with it for another week.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

RTB said several weeks ago that RoMa needed a chop-out at some stage- he's now decided to use bloody common sense, let's hope he keeps Tom for rest of season.Bruce G McAbee wrote: ↑Thu 27 Jun 2024 7:43pm After how well Campbell and Roman went against Brisbane you would think they would persist with it for another week.
No-brainer

Re: Team hoping to switch off the Power...
Dow, Webster, Campbell and Wilson would be my choice
Coops as sub has he has the versatility
Would be an absolute $hit!$#0W if Byrnes comes in with his recent form both in the seniors and at Sandy
Jones and Ross haven’t done much more either

Re: Team hoping to switch off the Power...
Byrnes hasn't got much of the ball for the Zebs.
Last round he got about 5 touches.
Is he insurance? Are one or two others a bit 50/50?

When you say “about 5” do you mean 25?WellardSaint wrote: ↑Thu 27 Jun 2024 10:24pmByrnes hasn't got much of the ball for the Zebs.

Re: Team hoping to switch off the Power...
I could go out there at 40 and guarantee you an effort that would shame many of the youngsters at AFL level. 100% 100% of the time going full ball.
Of course I’d be 50-60m behind every contest, if the ball somehow fell into my lap I’d be lucky to kick in the right direction and the first time I’d tackle Dan Houston, he’d pbly run the ball and take 3 bounces before he realised I was on his back.
Effort means little without effect, Until Byrnes starts impacting the games more by getting more ball, he’s in the marching zone IMO. All well and good to run to the right spots, apply the defensive pressure, guard the right space… but if you’re a non-tagging mid and you’re struggling to get 15 touches a game, it’s no good to us

Ryan must have more substance than some people think unless they really believe the club is dumb or tanking.skeptic wrote: ↑Thu 27 Jun 2024 11:54pmI could go out there at 40 and guarantee you an effort that would shame many of the youngsters at AFL level. 100% 100% of the time going full ball.

Possibly thinking Port ruckman is not particularly physical and Port use Findlayson as a backup and he is quite mobile.

Re: Team hoping to switch off the Power...
It appears RTB & Co have gone real cold on Pou, choosing to name Byrnes in the squad ahead of him.

Re: Team hoping to switch off the Power...
Of the three emergencies, Jones and Byrnes have been picked for Sandy; Campbell has not, suggesting he will be spare man in case someone goes down in the warmup . It also gives Heath the chance for a full game in the ruck ( where he has had some impressive games this season) .

Look I’m currently onboard the RTB train despite being a very disgruntled customer of the 1.0 version. When it comes to team selection, a huge part of his philosophy is like for like in terms of role… or failing that, have move the magnets around to change player roles and then go like for like.
E.g. Butler for Collard or if both aren’t good choices, get Wilson to a forward pocket and bring in Byrnes to the wing or something like that.
The point of this is that if often results in players in poor form that aren’t earning a recall, getting opportunity because they fit the profile of what’s needed to do the role vs players having actual impact. IMO it has been RTB’s critical weakness. He picks a player like an Eddy, McQualter, early Dempster (when he was a defensive forward)… or fast forward to now where it’s Byrnes, Jones, or Ross (in 2024 - he’s blossomed late in career prior to this season).
Now to be clear… IMO RTB version 3.0 has got this balance way way better. If this was the 09 model, players like Garcia, Hastie, Ari, Collard, Coops etc would never have gotten a look in… whilst an underperforming core group of Billings, Jones, Byrnes and Paton would have played every game despite none of them getting enough ball, not kicking goals, not impacting but all would be running 10+ kms a game guarding then right space.
Again… I reiterate that I’m pretty happy with what RTB is doing so far but I get anxious seeing a player like Byrnes, who has consistently failed to impact games and struggles to get 15 touches on a wing, get selected in the extended squad despite not earning the recall
