Channel 7 News

Post: # 2062302Post Teflon »

I watch 7 news most nights …like Mitch and but if a Jane fan
But almost every night, even when they aren’t training…there’s always a friggin Essendon story on Sport?
Yes I know Tim Watson and all….but surely the network is a little more organised than that?
Is it just me ? I’m sick of tuning in only to see dribble like “Bombers out in force helping old ladies cross the road..” farg off!

One of the best supported clubs doing well after a long time in the wilderness!

Maybe they should balance it out with a Ross Lyon hagiography?

Look at who Essendon has played so far this season and their winning margins (including against us)

Yes, they beat GWS but when GWS was in a slump

And they drew with Collingwood whose form is equally as problematic as is Essendon’s

Then look at their losses, the size of those losses and who the losses were to

The AFL Draw accounts for the Premiership table as it currently is

And St Kilda have not had any favours with the Draw

The surprise to me thus far is the decline of Brisbane

Then the variable form of GWS

Leaving out North Melbourne I remain of the opinion that anyone can beat anyone on the day

I also think Sydney are vulnerable because of their defence and particularly their key defenders

And Stokes’ political propaganda network?

How much is it costing Stokes to keep it going - noting the types it has defended in the Courts, the outcomes of those proceedings and the ultimate costs to Stokes

Very good post
This is what I said to a Bombers mate last year who was crying how poor they were - I said you’re only a soft draw off a rebound….here we are …Freo too
It’s actually what puts me off this comp a bit tbh …it’s almost…manufactured…it’s just the most uneven professional sporting competition in the world
Can’t be fixed without system change
Next year we’ll get a soft draw …bounce back …but papering g over cracks…rinse repeat…

Uhhh ... not quite. In the English Premier league, if you follow a team like Crystal Palace, the highlight of a year is a good performance against one of the big-money clubs. If you follow Scottish football, you're realistically only going to see a title win if you follow Celtic or Rangers. In that sense, the AFL is positively egalitarian. But it's true, you only have to look at most of the premiers of the last thirty years to wonder why we bother -- the AFL is clearly treatung us like mugs:

92 WCE -- state team
93 Ess -- Over the salary cap
94 WCE -- state team
95 Carl -- brown paper bags
2000 Ess -- over the slalary cap
2001-2003 Bris -- merged team
2005 Syd -- Cost of Living Allowance, Hall free to play
2006 WCE -- High as kites.
2007 Geel -- Dank in the background
2009 Gell -- Dank again
2010 Coll -- Human growth hormone (quickly hushed up)
2011 Geel -- Dank's final year?
2012 Syd -- COLA
2016 Bulldogs -- Dream run with the umps

But at least we've seen a few "lowly" clubs like the Bulldogs and Melbourne (and even Richmond, if you consider their recent history) pop up and win one ... the tragedy is that the Saints couldn;t manage it when we had our chance.

Best we look inward, instead of outward. Whatever was going on outside the club in 2009 was obviously the stuff we couldn't control. What we could control was our form leading up to the finals...oh AND team selection and utilising your best wet weather footballers on a wet and soggy GF day

Luke Ball sitting on the pine in the last quarter...?

Jack Steven played only 1 AFL game for the year, in 2009. It was his debut game as a Saint and it was Round 19... Steven was a little star goal sneak that day....Armo also played and was near best on ground.

Strange ...but both were dropped and NOT considered for the finals or Grand Final

Saints failed to score a goal in the last quarter. We had heaps of long bombs into the forward line...but with only Milne as the genuine goal sneak our options were limited.

Ross Lyon preferred Dempster instead of Armo or Jack Steven. Dempster lined up as a forward. He's not a forward. He had a shocker.

The same sort of thing with team selection occured with both Armo and Steven and Lynch not getting a decent go in 2010 and not used in finals. 2009 and 2010...The wasted opportunity years

2011 also wasted. I thought we were the most inform team heading in to the Elimination Final and we'd beaten most of the top 8 teams late in that year...BUT we seemed to have been spectacularly outcoached in our final

And in other news: AFL Operations Czars admit completely stuffing up umpiring of the game. Holding the ball rule to be progressively reintroduced, might be extended to Collingwood, Cats, Carlton and Port if the pilot study on lower sides goes OK.
Whatever the umpires feel is a reasonable time to release the ball will still be ticked off in public.
The reintroduced rules will not, obviously, apply to the Daicos', Dangerfield, Curnow or any Cameron.

A few years back, Channel 7 always had a North Melbourne training story and a Ziebell interview with him saying something to the effect that they were planning on doing better next weekend!

Channel 9 news always has a Collingwood story, usually about one of their injured players who is back running laps.

Unpopular opinion.
I don't like Jane Bunn.
I think it's the way she breaks up her sentences.

I preferred Vi Greenhalf.

Typical, no mention at all of the King twins playing on opposing sides on the Kings Birthday weekend. Only coverage is the McKay twins to promote the Essendon v Carlton game.

Maybe all the hype is part reason players leave small clubs like ours to play in big clubs,(think Gresham mentioned it )
And free agents choose them over us.
When they’re going crap or going good it’s what the media want to talk about.
