Is a state league player going to necessarily fill an immediate need?

Josh Battle is 193
Is 2cm going to make that much difference?
Cal Wilkie is only 191 - plays tall

Completely agree. It’s a spare tyre to see thru to September. We don’t need another average player so I hope we pass

I would go down the path, if they exist, of someone passed over int he draft in last couple years - perhaps for lack of physical development, injury or just weren't ready which has shown performance at a lower level and can get better. No recycled , delisted after 3 season players - not where we are with the list and ladder.

That would be Max Hall

2nd to Jake Soligo in the Eastern Ranges B&F in 2021 and had very similar stats ... Soligo now having a breakout year with the Crows

Has put together 2 solid years with Box Hill as a hard at it inside mid and doesn't mind getting forward and kicking a goal .... not sure what the knock on was on him in the draft year but he is only 21 and listed as 183cm and also in the Box Hill leadership group .... looks like he has a bit of hardness about him in the head

Word is Hawks would nab him if available but with their win on the weekend we are now in the box seat

Be nice to get a solid midfielder who is quick & scores goals...but the best 2 are most likely going Pick 1 & 2 so we get another fecking defender or some numpty.

I'm not sure a VFL level midfielder is the answer to any of our problems. If their development ceiling isn't high, then it's just blocking other draftees from playing that role.

I will say if he is drafted by us and is a gun, the Launceston game will retrospectively be the Max Hall cup.

I think Sharman and Hayes were both msd pickups and both played/ filled a hole that year although struggled to cement a spot since.
Newcombe for hawks has worked out for them.
With a question mark on Crouch & Seb long term it would make sense to go for Hall if he can slot in this year.
Is Hall better the Bytel?

Jai Newcombe was a vfl level midfielder taken no.2 in the 2021 MSD.

Watched him a couple times on the VFl coverage this season. Seems a handy player. Welcome aboard.

In the first instance I am against this AFL publicity grab because it demeans the various State competitions where affiliated Clubs prepare for a season by signing available players

These same competitions and Clubs (apart from Victoria which has a dedicated Under 18 competition) already provide the players Drafted to the AFL from their investment in under age sides, so Under 16’s and Under 18’s

Noting that many of those Drafted return to their home Clubs with few if any AFL games in their resume

So then taken again in a mid season Draft?

And in terms of St Kilda, we have a number of kids on our List, these kids developing at Sandringham

And that is where our focus should be - not bringing in players from other Competitions and, presumably, pushing our kids further down the List

Simply this activity is down to the AFL’s focus being on never ending publicity - including fantasy football

Before you get to holding the ball and where I passed comment on another thread

His dad did.

Very good footballer for Vermont in their premiership years.

Apart from Garcia , have we had a mid playing at Sandy that has looked dangerous ?
Even Crouch and Clark last weekend butchered their disposals.
So I guess Hall doesn’t have a hell of a lot of competition is what I’m saying.
He probably just needs to play 1 maybe 2 good games and then go straight into the selection mix.

His highlights reel is promising. Looks like he has an ability to extract himself from tight stoppage situations. Decent evasive skills which is something that is in short supply at our club

Losing to Dees dropped us below Hawks.
We draft Max Hall.
We didn't *tank* but we were happy for
- Salem to take 14 uncontested marks (no moves at all to negate him, in 100 minutes)
- Tomlinson+May to get 50 possies

How is setting up to lose, any different to agreeing to play a home game in Qld or China? Sell a game for $$$- you sell your soul.
Lose a game to snag a prospect who just might replace Crouch and become a valuable mid, when our MIDFIELD is a festering sore?
How is that different to selling a game?
In both cases, you know we'll lose.
But by losing, short-term pain for long term gain.
Play the system.
Norf shoulda lost to Suns last year, they woulda snagged Harley Reid.

Tanked for the Mid Season Draft?

These guys are not assured to even debut

Hall looks OK at VFL level - so does Garcia, Zac Jones and on the weekend Ollie Hotton

He is smallish - 180cm

Butler, Jones are 182
Hotton and Sincs are 181

We will play him as a small forward no doubt

No Jack Peris or Dan McKenzie to be seen in the picks. But disappointed for Peris I thought he had something to bring to the game.
