Re: Serong
Ironically
Taken with the pick we coughed up for Brad Hill
Brad is OK, but Serong will be a 12 year star.
Which is why my rule is
Never trade a First Rounder - unless it is for an u23 already proven star.

Re: Serong
Not quite, the pick we traded was sent to Melbourne with a few other picks for the pick that got serong. The pick we traded to Freo ended up being Kossie Pickett, who would also be handy.

We could have got Serong for pick 6 given that he ended going for pick 8.

Re: Serong
Exactly. Another stuff-up because Hill was not the player we were in need of at the time. We paid overs for him but at least he's given the club regular game time, unlike Hannebery who got a dream retirement package compliments of the St Kilda Football Club, while he sat out in the stands for over 95% of his lucrative 5 year contract. Decisions like that from incompetent fools unfortunately set a club back for years and there's been several monumental recruiting errors since 2011, hence our present predicament and why several other clubs have surpassed us in playing talent.

Re: Serong
At least we didn’t give up much to get Hannebery
We slid about 8 picks in the second round and still ended up getting Battle
Hannebery only cost was Salary
Hill
Salary, First Rounder Acres and something else I can’t remember

Re: Serong
The trade in 2019 was:
In:
Hill
Fremantle’s future third-round selection
Out:
pick no 10 (on-traded from Port Adelaide)
Pick 58
Future second and fourth-round picks
Blake Acres
Freo wanted Acres at the last minute. That should have been a sign that they were taking the piss. They should told them to shove their hail mary and walk away.

Re: Serong
Mind boggling that the moronic football department gave up all that and Acres (who I rated) for a player that had some purpose but far from the quality, bull midfielder we've been crying out for since 2011.SaintPav wrote: ↑Tue 14 May 2024 8:46am The trade in 2019 was:

Last year they keep a Ross on the list, who is finished and offers nothing going forward and let Bytel go. I watched him against the Eagles on Sunday before he got concussed and he did alright. More upside than Ross at the twilight of his career and he will go well at the Pies.
We've butchered our playing list as badly as we butcher the ball on field.

Re: Serong
Windhager is the only young fella that has shown any attacking flare around the stoppage contest and his game against the Pies is his ceiling in that regard, it’s what our midfield desperately needs so I’m not sure I’d send Windy into a game to be another Jack Steele and just being tackling and deploying negative tactics to the contest, high tackles counts mean you are second to the contest.
In the words of Ross Lyon last year when talking about the type of improvement he’d like to see in Steele, he said, “I’d like to see Jack light it up towards goals more”
If we are on going to tag a player let’s find a Clint Jones type to do the negating work while developing some attacking weapons at the same time.

Maybe when he’s responsible for opponent is when he plays his best attacking football though. Didn’t he have a big job on someone - Daicos? - in the Collingwood game?Vortex wrote: ↑Tue 14 May 2024 9:33amWindhager is the only young fella that has shown any attacking flare around the stoppage contest and his game against the Pies is his ceiling in that regard, it’s what our midfield desperately needs so I’m not sure I’d send Windy into a game to be another Jack Steele and just being tackling and deploying negative tactics to the contest, high tackles counts mean you are second to the contest.

Re: Serong
Those are outrageous odds.
On what planet with what exposed form, do we warrant being $1.70 favourites.
$2.10 for Freo is money for old rope.
I'm not a gambler, but if I were, that is as close to a sure thing as there ever was.

Re: Serong
I saw the odds also and wondered how we could be favourites.
I know quite often we bitch and moan about previous trades and we do have to move on but:- 2019 draft pick 10 which we had Tom Green GWS Hill has been good for us but maybe now Green /Serong plus Acres plus our future 2nd would make our team better.

Re: Serong
Possibly, his attack on the ball and exits from stoppages to distribute the ball were what I remember from that game, but not only to get the ball to the outside to but it was also his Henry-like energy to drive us forward.bigcarl wrote: ↑Tue 14 May 2024 12:21pmMaybe when he’s responsible for opponent is when he plays his best attacking football though. I remember it because if someone plays like that in our midfield it stands out, we haven’t seen that type of a player in our midfield since Lenny.

Re: Serong
Fat chance St Kilda would have taken Serong, they would just have squandered the pick.
