When they earn their spot
Last week Wilson was outstanding and is clearly a gun
Our 3 lowest ranked players
Hastie
Garcia
Phillipou
Less than 20 disposals between them. All for getting games into you players who are contributing- but not into carrying them.
This is NOT. critique of their potential and whether they will be any good. Personally I think all 3 will be VG players.
But there needs to be integrity in selection and you need to earn a game. You should NOT get a game because you’re young or have potential.
If there are better options - they should be selected
Phillipou would benefit from 2-4 weeks in the twos playing as a full time mid
Hastie as a 4 qtr wingman
Garcia as a midfielder/forward

Re: Playing the kids
So given Henry is back this week, who from Sandringham yesterday demanded AFL selection?
Noting Clark and Allison were injured during the course of the game
What is the criteria for AFL selection (given you are not of established quality)?
Webster came straight back in because we lack a lock down defender deployed to the elite small forwards of the competition
Webster’s competition is Paton
Wood is an automatic if fit
Henry is an automatic if fit
But Howard and Hayes have come back thru the VFL despite their importance to structure
Ditto the important and unfortunate Clark

Zak Jones
2 x very good performances in a row
Dominant player at that level
He is a perfect Sub imo - as is Byrnes - runners to add leg speed in last quarters
Paddy Dow
Too good a player to be running around in the VFL - a very superior player to Garcia - obviously at this stage.
Liam Henry walks straight back in

Re: Playing the kids
Yes we are probably playing too many skinny first year players.
Garcia provides good tackle pressure in the forward line. In many ways not dissimilar to Butler.
Henry probably squeezes Garcia out this week.
Did Dow do enough to earn a recall ? I don’t think so, but is still probably ahead of Hastie.
Pou will somehow miraculously survive again, even though I would personally bring in Sharman.
