Re: Saints NGA article: Sam Linder
Sounds like a good kid, obviously highly rated at the Dragons being VC.
Its interesting that this year we will have 3 x possible NGA's Cole, Linder & Hoffman plus FS Peckett as options. All are realistic chances which would be fantastic for the club but make list places teally tight.
Could lead to us trading some fringe players?

Re: Saints NGA article: Sam Linder
The trouble with NGA kids is that we cannot match a bid until pick 40 so if these guys are guns they will go before then.
Northern states have no such restrictions.
We were lucky with Owens & Windy as they went after pick 20 which was the bar that year.

I really don’t see the point of having an NGA when you don’t have priority access to high end talent.

McKenzie our NGA that the dorks grabbed last year is turning out to be a fine young footballer.

The AFL is supposed to be looking at the NGA Academy draft rules and are yet to decide, or make public,
what changes they are thinking of making.
If they know we have a good draftable player in our NGA squad they might push the criteria out to no bid before pick 50 for this year.

The list changes for 2025 have begun, always an interesting time for an avid supporter.

The AFL are presently looking at changing the rules, either way I doubt any get selected before pick 40. Hopefully the rules change prior, but we will still need picks or points to grab them.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Thu 02 May 2024 7:32pm I really don’t see the point of having an NGA when you don’t have priority access to high end talent.

The AFL is f***ed. The Dullbogs were able to jump the que and draft Jamara Ugle Hagen. I see no point in the NGA

Agree, I’ve watched the last 2 Hawks games & he’s really impressed me. His handball skills are perfection….. pity his teammates muck up some of the play he generates.
Actually he reminds me of the young Peter Crimmins - same running gait, the way he turns back away from a tackle & runs around from his tackler with some ease & the blond hair. Some of his foot skills need a bit more precision. Pity we missed out on him.

The year before that Mac Andrew went at #5 and he was a Melbourne NGA.
Not to mention JUH at Bulldogs before the rules changed.

Here’s an idea…..
No club has an academy or NGA.
This complete nonsense about growing the game in northern states and that it’s created more footballers there is laughable.
Sydney got Heeney out of it after finishing top 4??
Yet we can’t draft an equivalent player until pick 40+
It’s another version of COLA.
