Re: Geoff Walsh
At the age of 64 Walsh said in 2020 when leaving Collingwood....
"the moment you start thinking about retirement is the time to finish"
2 years later we give him the top job in our football department...a Blighty recruitment move you can't learn at University.

Re: Geoff Walsh
I assume you say really stupid things to get people to roll their eyes. Ridiculous comparison, but you must know that.

Re: Geoff Walsh
I don’t think it’s such a ridiculous comparison.
From a distance it seemed both weren’t on board. Blight clearly wasn’t at least.

Re: Geoff Walsh
It was a fair comparison
Both were done - had to be head hunted and convinced to join
Heart wasn’t it in from either

There is a fine line between saying really stupid things and occasionally putting an idea or thought of your own forward, but I get why you'd refrain from free thinking as much as you do.

Re: Geoff Walsh
Yes. Geoff Walsh isn't here anymore, the football department was flipped and Ross Lyon was employed AS COACH, and his department, lead by Misson, took us to the finals in his first year with a list that most ranked 10-14th.
The comparison is pointless.
The comparison is pointless.

Re: Geoff Walsh
Melbourne and maybe GWS' lists were better than where they finished. Port was flattered. Swans list was not better than the Crow's. Our coaches got everything from the players available to them, we finished ahead of GWS after the minor round didn't we.

Re: Geoff Walsh
Yes the ladder does. In 2022 we ended the year ranked 10th and in 2023 we ended ranked 7th and played valuable finals football.
And seriously, how do we rank lists? We are on a football forum ffs??? That's what we do, the press does it, my friends at work do it, it's called opinion. And, when most people are saying the same thing, it becomes consensus. We certainly weren't ranked any higher than 10 when Ross took over?

Re: Geoff Walsh
Yes we ended up 7th but we over achieved based on an incredibly favourable draw and were aided by a glut of sides from 5th to 15th producing an even spread of losses which the AFL controlled footbal media are forced to market and promote as an "even competition".
However the reality is the quality of football produced by us and that glut of teams was generally very average, and it was quite obvious for most of the season that there was daylight between the top 3 to 4 teams and the rest of the comp with only GWS proving late in the season it could genuinely compete with the top 4.
A better measure of list quality will be ladder position averaged over a minimum of 3 to 4 seasons to allow for seasonal corrections. This was a mathematical formula I developed after the Covid Cup when we won a final and led our crazy fan base to believe we were destined for flag glory.
The "maths never lies" ...
The ladder is only important in the last 2 weeks of the finals.

That was a very dramatic conclusion. What does it even mean?Vortex wrote: ↑Sun 12 Nov 2023 8:12am Yes we ended up 7th but we over achieved based on an incredibly favourable draw and were aided by a glut of sides from 5th to 15th producing an even spread of losses which the AFL controlled footbal media are forced to market and promote as an "even competition".
