Hogan and Bedford would have been useful for Melbourne this year.

They won a Grand Final by 13 goals.
They lost two finals this year by under 8 points. Same as last year.
They're going alright.

That win against the Dogs who were stuck at Adelaide during the GF week, were flown in late from memory - Dogs didn't have an equitable chance on the day of the dance and the Audi-ski-racks peaked that year. They look slightly better than us on our rebuild year at best in my eyes.

They still won. Grand Finals are won by a variety of methods.
Some Grand Finals were won by a round robin tournament, and others were won by the team finishing on top challenging the actual premier of that season (such as what happened to us in 1913).
Other teams won premierships when most of the other teams were in recess during the world wars.
Melbourne won, fair and square, and they killed them.
In my opinion Melbourne look about one season away from where Richmond are this season. Mid-table with some very good players in their team. Capable but no longer able to challenge for premiership. If they are going to win their second with their current team it will have to be next season IMO, because Grundy is going to start to fall back to the pack after next season.
And I think the Bulldogs will be where Richmond are now, next season.
But at least both Melbourne and the Bulldogs won a Grand Final.

Melbourne won a flag - nothing to prove
Their forward line is crap

I think Melbourne have just had no consistency in their forward line, but that's their own doing.

It was Goodwin's idea to have Grundy and Gawn playing as Forwards and rotating in the ruck.

Injuries to Ben Brown, Tom McDonald and Jake Melksham late in the year didn't help. Not sure trading in Schache and discarding Weideman was the right move. Goodwin should have kept Sam Weideman and let him eventually become the number 1 target.

Everything fell into place in 2021 for Melbourne. Their top players were peaking career wise and their defacto coach was the difference. Choco had them eating out of the palm of his hand in those hubs.

Melbourne have underperformed with the talent at their disposal. So have Port, but that's worthy of a a new thread.
