Re: Bytel
He’ll be picked up
This year or next
Richmond got rid of Oleg Markov, then the GC did
Now he’s a starting player in the best team in the comp
Just because a s*** team gets rid of a player, doesn’t make them a dud, it probably means the environment they were in was s*** and didn’t suit them.
Hundreds of players have left clubs only to flourish elsewhere
We more than anyone should know that!

Bytel now has a chance and an opportunity to make it .
Something that he never really had at Moorabbin.

Re: Bytel
I'll remind you that we took the chance on an 18 year old kid, who needed back surgery and three years.
We took that punt because preinjury he was stronger in the legs.
He has come a long way, at the expense of us. If he makes it and wins a brownlow, I'm sure he will reflect on that. I'm just not sure he will win a brownlow.

He put in a lot of work, hopefully he gets a return.

Re: Bytel
Don't have an issue with the delisting, especially as we need to make some tough calls on those players 25-35.
4 gone, maybe a couple more via trade or delist but need to find that sweet spot between clean out and losing depth

Re: Bytel
As far as depth goes
I’ve watched a lot of VFL - more than AFL
Bytel and Highmore consistently the best two players (with Campbell)
Ver few injuries to our key backs and inside Mids and lack of opportunities have seen them stuck in the VFL dominating

Players like Bytel and Constable who are very decent players and way above VFL standard, but can't run to an AFL required level are not high on clubs wish lists.
Markov got another opportunity because he is fast and his existing relationship with McRea.
I like Bytel, but I think delisting him is the correct move.
Looking forward to reading someone write about Greg Williams being slow

Re: Bytel
I'm a bytel fan but he is too slow and turns the ball over too much to be in most sides.
As the #1 man inside a contest winning the footy he excels- at our club he is 3rd or 4th in line for that role.
I actually think the best place he could go is Essendon where they lack that inside clearance machine.
Most likely outcome is he has a post St Kilda career similar to that of Dunstan.
I assume the morons s*** canning our club for not investing a sixth year in an injury prone player with upside won't be apologising if the most likely outcome turns out to be the reality.
Instead they will say his development was stunted here, overlooking the ability St Kilda have shown to develop late draft picks, midseason draft picks and rookie selections over recent times.

I assume his spot is filled by Dow.
I’d prefer not to take Dow, but he’s better depth than Bytel IMO.

GET OVER BYTEL FFS. He’s gone. He’s a dud. Move the fvck on ya old wa***** Everyone on reddit and big footy think you are stuffed in the head to think Bytel is this classy midfielder that’s going to revolutionise the game. We got three. Windy, Owens and Phillipou. Put your energy into them. Get over it.

Re: Bytel
Last game he played for the Saints was in Round 19 when he was used on a wing. He must be a wingernostalgicsaint wrote: ↑Wed 13 Sep 2023 1:50pm I'm a bytel fan but he is too slow and turns the ball over too much to be in most sides.
He couldn't play the Josh Daicos or Isaac Smith role on the wing so who'd want him? Right?!!
Funny really...Round 17 and 18 we were up against Melbourne and the Gold Coast Suns in consecutive weeks. Two teams with the best credentialled inside mids and among the best in the league at winning clearances and winning contested footy.
Bytel was left out of the side in those rounds, but was BOG for Sandringham in consecutive weeks and voted best player for the month of June for the Zebs.
You'd think we might want to use a young kid hungry to perform on the big stage and to showcase his strengths at winning clearances and winning contested footy, but no!! We leave him hanging until his form can't be ignored...AND then we play him on a wing!! Fvcking ridiculous. No common sense in that
So...in Round 19 we dropped Ronnie Byrnes for the match against North Melbourne and Ryan was replaced by that we'll known winger in Jack Bytel.

Re: Bytel
This Bytel can’t run notion - where is that from? His ability to cover the ground was a strength. Not quick, neither are many pure inside Mids. But endurance good.
It’s a bit like Seb Ross is slow myth
His top end speed ranks top 5 at stK and he regularly hits 34.5k
Hill leads the way at 35.6kph

Just the eye test to be honest, regularly seems to be last to spread from a contest.B.M wrote: ↑Wed 13 Sep 2023 7:30pm This Bytel can’t run notion - where is that from? His ability to cover the ground was a strength. Not quick, neither are many pure inside Mids. But endurance good.

Your point about him being a pure inside mid is what has held him back at the Saints. He is behind other better inside mids or other young talent who have more strings to their bow.
I really hope he ends up at a club that lacks in this area and goes well but fully understand why it isn't going to work out for him at our club.

Re: Bytel
Another good VFL player not good enough at AFL level - millions of them
He can’t spread , doesn’t win enough ball at top level
Has had plenty chances
37 touches racks em up easy in VFL but that’s 2 rungs below as we know
Move on

Re: Bytel
How would Bytel go tonight if he was playing for Port?
Kid has good hands but no leg speed. He’s also an average kick which lacks penetration.
Pity it’s not 1995.
