Coff
Not the dreaded lurgy, but you'd be forgiven for forgetting about the saints player who wears #1. I certainly did.
Where's he at? Could he be a surprise selection?
Not on the injury list.
Played a string of VFL, some promising, some not.
Showed glimpses of talent in his time with the club, prior to injury.
Word is out that Brisbane are interested in him.
We have enough HBF types but can he become the player we need?

Re: Coff
That's interesting. If a Top 4 team is interested, why isn't St Kilda?
Who by the way, should be wanting to keep him & his two compadres in Clark & Paton. I guess Ross & his cohorts will make that decision on observations & attitudes.
If someone does not wish the RW&B or play to the coach's tune, then good bye, farewell & amen.

Re: Coff
I’m not sure about Coff.
I think he’s more suited to the backline but he’s probably fighting for a position with Battle.
Can he play a Mason Wood or Blake Acres type of role?

Re: Coff
Not sure what the club is playing at with Coffield. Lyon hasn't seen him play with us at senior level, so leaving the door open for him to just walk is bizarre. A Blake Acres scenario in the making?
Looks like they're inviting Gresham and Clark to leave, too.
Or could it be that all three players want out, and they're the ones who have been holding off? It's quite possible.

Re: Coff
Has had a horror run with injury , on way back mid season and does a calf. No way could have played this year after that at afl level.
Was a top 10 pick and top 5 in B & F so compensation would want to be reasonable.
Be at pains to see him go before others .
Just because another club enquirers does not mean they are gone.

Re: Coff
Brisbane arguably have the best list in the league. Coff will find it a difficult side to break into.

Re: Coff
True.
If the rumour is true as Marcus Adams has had to retire, the Lions may have Coffield in mild to be a possible replacement for him now. Coffield is about the same size and weight now that he has filled out.

Re: Coff
The grass is always greener...unless it isn't.
Thank God GWS saw Steele as surplus & he wanted out...but it often doesn't work out.
If players aren't regularly in the 22 I reckon it's fair enough they ask to go, it's their career flying by in the 2's. If they can get a chance elsewhere and we dont feel we need them...more power to them. It's sad to lose some players loaded with potential but I understand.

Re: Coff
Not sure Coff can complain about not being picked - he has been injured all year + the year before that
He just ran out of time - needed a couple more weeks in the VFL season and less byes to give him a chance

Re: Coff
Before he got injured, he wasn’t overly quick, and wasn’t too keen to stand under the highball. Read the play quite well, but if I was to be honest, he was part of a group of players that were the reason we were only an average team. Him, Clark, Gresham, and Billing. All of them early draft picks, and none of them reached the highs that we required to be a great team. Sounds harsh, but that’s the reality. Should we let him go? Right now, there’s young blokes coming through and he’s injury prone. I would’ve liked to have seen him have one more crack at it, but if the powers that be decide to let him go, I won’t be furious.

Are we referring to the same Mr Coffield. Don't recognise the one mentioned above.Moods wrote: ↑Thu 07 Sep 2023 9:33am Before he got injured, he wasn’t overly quick, and wasn’t too keen to stand under the highball. Re: Coff
Hope he sticks around.
Has had a wretched run with injury, but I saw enough before that to justify a pick No.8 in the draft.
If he does go, it might be one of those that comes back to haunt us.

Re: Coff
Was great in 2020 as a running defender/play maker type. The footage of him in our final vs the WB where he saw the opponent in front of him, ran past him then hit the after burners is a favourite of mine for whatever reason.
Then inexplicably… they decided to muscle him up and make him more of a packing marking, key position type. Highmore played a more in 2021 and everyone loved him as an intercept defender which appears to me why they tried to turn Coff into.
That was ridiculous because it wasn’t him.
Had shades of GT and Brendan Goddard when they bulked him up to make him a KPP.
What has really sucked for Coff is that they looked to course correct with the reports the following two off-seasons that he was doing the work and was arguably the fitness player at the club. Then of course came two season ending injuries

Re: Coff
Yeah
What is going on?
Agree w/above re. 2020
Thought he would be elite player
And yep, Tom Highmore I thought was good too..
Now I ask
Liam Stocker
Why did they get him?
And has he more upside than the two aforementioned
Obviously at this point, seems so.
But I’d reckon
Deeper down
That Coff is the most well regarded of the three

In Coffield’s case, I don’t think so, no.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Thu 07 Sep 2023 12:17pm Now I ask

I reckon he’s potentially elite and I don’t see that in Stocker yet.
Problem with players such as Coffield is that the club has made an investment in him. Not just by picking him first round, but in sticking in him through long-term injury. Fans have invested hopes in him.
It wouldn’t be great to see someone else benefitting big time once he finally gets an injury-free run at it. Required for next season imo and, fully fit, easily in our best 22.
