I reckon if I was as cynical about the running of the game as Curly I would start following a different game to avoid the wear and tear to my psyche!

Re: Sydney will be gifted a win today
RTB's last game for us in 2011 was a home final at Docklands Stadium and they beat us easily. It was most surprising.
Even if we played them at the MCG, it would be tough. We have only beaten them 3 out of our previous 19 matches. If we win a final against them we will have done very well.
I don't think they will be gifted (another) win today though. In fact, I think if Melbourne do lose today, they can probably forget about winning the grand final this year.

I'd like to see Melbourne rest Gawn and Petracca only for Grundy and Viney to go berserk and Dees fringe players lift to ensure getting picked.
Dees by 35 plus, Swans will play bruise free once they are well behind at half time.

Re: Sydney will be gifted a win today
It'll be interesting to see if Port lose today.
If they do, then Melbourne have a choice to finish 3rd or 4th.
Win and finish 3rd and play Brisbane at the Gabba, or lose and finish 4th and play Collingwood at the 'G.
I know where I'd rather play week 1 of the finals.

Re: Sydney will be gifted a win today
Melbourne have nothing to play for if Port beat Richmond (highly likely).
And if Richmond somehow does win, Melbourne may have incentive to lose for a home final at the G.

Re: Sydney will be gifted a win today
This is what is wrong with staggered last games - lol - from a tipping perspective.
Imagine:
Person A - 149
Person B - 149
Person C - 148
Do you tip the logical Melb to beat Swans - or believe the hype that Sydney will win even though in a perfect world (no interchange c**k ups - proper reviews) they are 12th.

This isn't 1978. This isn't 2009. It's not even 2022
When did they create the order of games? Was at at the start of the year like the other home and away games? No it wasn't...
Of course it was designed that way, BUT the time and dates of Round 24 were only worked out weeks ago.

I don’t get the ancient history. 1-0 this year and 3-3 this decade.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sun 27 Aug 2023 10:37am RTB's last game for us in 2011 was a home final at Docklands Stadium and they beat us easily. It was most surprising.

I doubt that Owens, Windhager, Phillipou and NWM would be looking up afl tables.

Re: Sydney will be gifted a win today
I have a feeling that we are going to get shafted.
Sydney doesn't even deserve to be in the finals, let alone in the position of playing a home final.
They have spent the majority of the season outside the top 8, while we have been in the top 8 throughout the entire season.
The injustice!

Do we turn this into a 6th position games thread, because we're 6th at the moment.

Not much sign of the umps favouring Sydney in the first quarter.

Re: Sydney will be gifted a win today
The AFL would want Sydney to win because the final will be a full house .
If we get to play them at the G , the crowd will be around the 45k mark

Re: Sydney will be gifted a win today
SCG has a maximum crowd capacity of 48K - so why would 45K in Melbourne be much different? And you will probably get more than that as the Saints Go Marching In!mr six o'clock wrote: ↑Sun 27 Aug 2023 5:35pm The AFL would want Sydney to win because the final will be a full house .
