Re: Dougle on the market article
If Dougal gets traded does that mean RTB sees a future for Adams and Van Es or have Grubby and SOS told RTB they have found him a replacement KPD
that they can walk to the SSP and get for a slab of boutique beer.

Six debutants for the Saints so far in Season 2024.

Cal Twomey is just doing the job he is paid handsomely to do.
Which is to talk crap. And, if there is no crap to talk, just make things up.
He provides no evidence of what he is spurting, just talking crap.

Re: Dougle on the market article
I remember when Dougal was recruited and the queries about why Port were happy to offload a bloke who had captained the club. Any suggestion at the time he might have issues was howled down by the seniors faction on SS and staunch claims we had snagged a ripper deal were defended aggressively...who were those posters I wonder.
What I'd like see is our club try the same used car sales trick and allow a player we intend offloading at trade time captain the club in tomorrows game, the tactic worked a treat for Port, just need to find a sucker.

Re: Dougle on the market article
Not if he plays. Put a quick skillful player on him and he's cactus. Thilthorpe looked like a superstar when he played on him in Cairns. He made Dougal look stupid.

Look mate, I totally agree but I think a 2nd rounder is probably more beneficial to usmagnifisaint wrote: ↑Fri 25 Aug 2023 7:39pmNot if he plays. Put a quick skillful player on him and he's cactus. Thilthorpe looked like a superstar when he played on him in Cairns. He made Dougal look stupid.
Maybe a straight swap for Tarryn Thomas from the Kangas, if they lose McKay they'll be looking for a KPD, I know his got baggage but the boy can play
Re: Dougle on the market article
Perhaps these “journalists” get their stories from sites such at this - so rubbish in and rubbish out
Port Adelaide were most unhappy to lose Howard, who they rated (he captained the Club after all and at a very young age)
I do not know the specifics of why Howard sought to leave Port Adelaide - all I do know from a former Norwood player then an executive at Alberton was that it was a personal issue which those at Port Adelaide could not resolve (to their disappointment)
Howard is a 199cm defender
The general comment across the AFL is that there is a dearth of such defenders - hence the market for the North Melbourne player
So given that is the market, if we move Howard on who do we replace him with?
Yes, we have Cordy on a Contract WB would not give but Cordy gives defensive KPP depth which is why we recruited him (to replace the short term emergency Frawley)
Maybe Lyon has seen enough of Adams and Van Es to conclude that they will be AFL ready by Round 1, 2024, both still needing to add some weight in my opinion before coming to grips with the key forwards of the competition
But back to the key question, if Howard is moved on as many on here suggest, how do we replace Howard at 199cm and 95kgs?
And particularly given such players are at a premium across the competition?
I also note that until injury Howard held preference over Cordy

Re: Dougle on the market article
I don't agree with the bagging of Howard.
There are parts of his game I don't like, such as the finger pointing and frustration toward team mates.
With Cordy looking solid in defence, could Howard slot into the Battle role and become more of an intercept marking player or move forward?
Perhaps Caminitti maybe redeployed to defence over the summer, you'd certainly get someone who is keen to compete with the young lad.
Perhaps B.King is coming?

Imo pick 20 or better.
Is an option to trade but only at the right price.

I don't think he'll go that high, teams will know the flaws that DH has, you know, the same ones that posters on fan forums go ballistic about, especially after a few sippers.nostalgicsaint wrote: ↑Fri 25 Aug 2023 9:23pmImo pick 20 or better.

Re: Dougle on the market article
This old
He captained the club - when at Port
Is a bit overblown
Firstly- they were s*** at the time (with Boak out)
Secondly- he was acting captain fos Game or two
Fk me
After Boak stood down Jonas was made captain- he’s a spud!

Re: Dougle on the market article
It’s a tough call…
One could argue that he’s not value for what he’s paid and would have perceived value on the trade market
But is Cordy actually the real deal. I mean don’t get me wrong… he’s been decent since Howard has been out, but it’s really easy to overrate the value of someone doing good in a team that’s playing well.
At this point, I’d pbly wait for a really good offer to come in to force the move

If a reporter asked the Saints about Dougal being on the table, and they say 'no' or they say they're looking at the list in detail but haven't decided on any moves yet-Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Fri 25 Aug 2023 5:44pm Cal Twomey is just doing the job he is paid handsomely to do.

Twomey will say 'of course they'll deny it'

Cordy did really well on Hawkins, and in other games.
He's a Bulldogs premiership player, but that was 2016? Ages ago.
We cannot judge him yet, on such a small sample size.
Need to see him after another season in defence, if in fact he remains in the side.
As someone else said, he wasn't best 22 when Doogs was playing.
Can he maintain the form, or is this a flash in the pan?

Re: Dougle on the market article
Cordy has been good but I reckon that Howard probably has more tricks to his game.
I don’t think we have exploited Howard’s attacking game since he’s been with the Saints.
If he goes, he’ll need to be replaced as the others are two years off.

Re: Dougle on the market article
KPD's are like ruckmen, they don't grow on trees and you need a few coming through your system to get a sinlge good one. With some clubs chasing he's definitely worth a late first rounder.bobmurray wrote: ↑Fri 25 Aug 2023 9:30pmI don't think he'll go that high, teams will know the flaws that DH has, you know, the same ones that posters on fan forums go ballistic about, especially after a few sippers.nostalgicsaint wrote: ↑Fri 25 Aug 2023 9:23pmImo pick 20 or better.

He is certainly worth something, even to us, I for one get some comfort for him as a 'team' emergency backup and we are aware of his strengths and weaknesses.
