Jack Reiwoldt
Retiring - nearly 350 games 780 odd goals 3 or 4 Coleman medals
Why a thread about him
He SHOULD have been a fkn SAINT!!!!
We had pick 9
He went pick 13
He was a STAR in TAS as an 17yo played senior footy for Clarence and kicked 5 in a senior GF
His dad played 300+ games for Clarence and is a tas footy Hall of Famer
His cousin was our best player!
He did work experience at Moorabbin
He was a known quantity
We decided on David Armitage- ok selection
And ignored what was right under our nose!
Our recruiter at the time
Couldn’t see a position for him at AFL level.
And didn’t think it’d be a good idea to have the cousins together at StK
What a joke
Another woeful decision- which cost 1 maybe two flags!

Re: Jack Reiwoldt
Agree we should have recruited him, although he was undersized for a key forward and I think that's why they didn't. May have cost us a Premiership, you could also argue that taking Ball instead of Judd cost us one. Or taking McEvoy ahead of Cyril Rioli.
If Hamill hadn't retired prematurely because of his knee, we probably would have gone back to back in 2009/2010.

Re: Jack Reiwoldt
We've had some seriously bad recruiters in the last 20 years. That would have been Beveridge. A really poor decision. It also shows that John Ralph knows s***. He said a day or two before that he expected Riewoldt to play on next year.

If you're talking about his segment on FoxFooty 'On the Couch' John Ralph said he thought it was 65% he stays...35% he retiresmagnifisaint wrote: ↑Tue 15 Aug 2023 11:01am We've had some seriously bad recruiters in the last 20 years. Re: Jack Reiwoldt
Blame John Beveridge. Grant Thomas was keen but Beveridge said it was not a good idea to have cousins playing together. I think John had lost the plot by that stage

Yes and he gave his reasons why. In other words he was just guessing!Scollop wrote: ↑Tue 15 Aug 2023 11:19amIf you're talking about his segment on FoxFooty 'On the Couch' John Ralph said he thought it was 65% he stays...35% he retiresmagnifisaint wrote: ↑Tue 15 Aug 2023 11:01am We've had some seriously bad recruiters in the last 20 years. Re: Jack Reiwoldt
Beveridge was ordinary. What a lame excuse. Thomas should have over ruled him!
Jack was twice the player Armitage was. Go figure!
If they were brothers it would have been ok.

But it’s ok to recruit your son.

Re: Jack Reiwoldt
Back then, way back then, from my seat in Bay 412, I did not think he was half as good as his cousin. I thought he lacked discipline.
Only later, did I realise he was a seriously good player.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Remember when he jumped the fence at punt road to avoid the press , ran across punt road and jumped on a train at richmond station .
Now that was funny

Re: Jack Reiwoldt
Plain and simple stupidity!
Probably because we erred in taking the Clarke brothers
Beveridge was an amateur recruiter

Re: Jack Reiwoldt
Great career by Jack. We got a bit gun shy in recruiting family members. Ended up pulling the wrong reign several times.
Jack & Cyril should have been Saints and both Premiership players for St Kilda.
But hey, we've only got 3 more months before we consign some more young players to our pain. Let's hope they are made of the right stuff, we certainly need them to be.

Re: Jack Reiwoldt
I remember seeing Jack at the draft combine - he was a brash cocky youngster who I guess Beveridge didnt warm to. At the time we had Kosi, Nick and Gehrig still playing and needed midfield talent. In hindsight it was a poor decision as to me Armitage was a very restricted player.

The rear view mirror on your car is approximately 2% of the size of your windscreen, and this is proportionate to how much time you should spend looking forward than in reverse.

Haha. We shouldn't bag Seb Ross but we can retrospectively cane John Beveridge a Jack Titus Service award winner. He identified a number of players who actually made the AA team.

Re: Jack Reiwoldt
Beveridge stuffed up more picks than he got right!
It’s that simple
Not all his fault
Ridiculously under resourced!!!
