Re: 4th Ashes Test
After the series it’s been who could be surprised that this is how the last day of the last Test is set up!
Both teams have squandered dominant positions in this Test, now all three results are in play.
The Poms got a bit of luck with the rain yesterday as the Aussie’s were going along comfortably, now they’ve both got to start again today.
If Warner and Usman can get thru the first half hour then I think the Aussies are a big chance of winning. But the Aussies could easily collapse too unfortunately!
Need 250 with 10 wickets in hand on a good pitch, very possible!

Hopefully the wet outfield ruins the ball a bit!

New day, new ball, better bowling conditions, not good!
Need to keep building partnerships and not lose wickets in clumps!

Yeah Head isn’t going to be around long, can’t get near it!
Need to keep him up the other end from Broad as if he’s a tailender!

Re: 4th Ashes Test
Someone over in the England camp needs to give Anderson a tap on the shoulder. He’s a liability with the bat and in the field, and of all the bowlers for England he had easily been the worst this series. I think he had as many wickets as Joe Root!

Re: 4th Ashes Test
All things considered (ball, conditions) I think that’s a pretty good session, only losing the 3 wickets and knocking 100 runs off the target.
Looking a bit easier against the pacers but I think the spinner is going to be an issue with the pitch playing tricks.
A couple of hours of rain coming apparently? Game still very much in the balance.

Re: 4th Ashes Test
Outrageous
Change the ball and get basically a new ball 35 overs in, in completely different condition

Re: 4th Ashes Test
surely , the ump (?) who supplied the box of balls
to be chosen from ... was well aware ... an appropriate aged ball was not in the box
the 'appropriate' ones are probably still in the 3rd drawer of his office desk

Re: 4th Ashes Test
England have a bigger home ground advantage than Geelong.
And Warner has never played in a winning series in England.
I wonder if he will notice how well Broad, Ali and Buddy Franklin managed their retirements.
Clinging on grimly, arguing with hecklers is a sad look.
Cummins captaincy honeymoon over.
Labuchagne a shadow of.
Cary has a cross to carry now, if he stays #1 keeper when we tour. I wonder if, at the end of his career, he will ever have second thoughts.

Re: 4th Ashes Test
Well, that was a fine series.
My English mate is telling me that the sides are pretty evenly matched.
He didn't bite, when I said 'a box of balls' helps.
I said that Stokey's early declaration in the first, and late declaration in the fourth, cost 'em.
Let's look at it though.
Are they evenly matched?
Pace bowlers
1. Cummings was better than Anderson
2. Broad even with Hazelwood
3. Boland/Green/Marsh with Woakes. Woakes better than all of them
4. Stark better than Stokes?
4. Ali is less than Lyon for spin, but then offered better batting..the new guy looked OK...and can hold a bat too
Batters
aussies just better...no discussion required?
ditto
fielding?
all in all, maybe my mate is correct. Evenly matched.

Re: 4th Ashes Test
Yep, so is Stokes and you know what they have in common?
The pommie deadshits wouldn't have a beer with the Aussies after the series end but I say who would want to drink with the poms anyway. Not I. for sure.

Re: 4th Ashes Test
Jmmy Oldmanderson needs to follow Broad out the door, or if he doesn't want to, then the Poms should just stop selecting him, he is done, he is now just one of
those olden day Pommy Pie Chuckers that Rod Marsh used to laugh at.
All those Pommy bowlers are in their mid 30's or older, Baz is going to need a new bowling line up in the next year or so.
The Aussie team could do with a refresh going forward, if we have any decent developing cricketers at Shield level.
It was a good series to watch but staying up until 3.30am last night and then getting up at 7.30 am this morning is a bit much for an old bloke.

The list changes for 2025 have begun, always an interesting time for an avid supporter.
