Re: 4th Ashes Test
Good job so far by the Aussies.
Need these 2 to bat for a long time (they owe Aus runs) and one (if not both) needs to go on and score a century.
Keep the English bowlers out there and they’ll start to wilt by the third session.

Aussies on top
Not a worry in the word
Smith clubbing Moeen Ali for six.
Part of me hopes we have 2-2 for a final
..but
Aussies are too good.

Re: 4th Ashes Test
Rooy from Houston end, short to Ratten.
Ratten nearly lost balance but hooked that for 6. Players exchanging pleasantries.
Where's the spirit of cricket. Umpires appealing for decorum. DRS lip reader called in.

Re: 4th Ashes Test
What’s a dumber tactic, St Kilda continuing to bomb long inside 50, or batsmen continuing to hook with 3 out waiting?

Re: 4th Ashes Test
Bordering on pathetic display by the Aussies, everyone except Usman has got a start, no one has gone on with it in perfect batting conditions. It’s a 400+ pitch, Aussies will need the weather to save this Test.

Re: 4th Ashes Test
Umpire has set the tone with the Green call. Every close call must now be given out and let the batsman risk the challenge.

Curly
What do you think about cricket umpires in general?
Do you think they are as fair as footy umpires?
On another note
Can you believe the number of 30s,40s and 50s in this series? For both teams.

I think the DRS system has caused far to many issues. Green gets given not out he keeps batting. The umpire now has to give every close call out for the remainder of the test. You get an umpire that gives the benefit of the doubt to the batsman throughout an innings its a huge advantage.
Batting is poor in general as they don't seem to want to bat time and grind out a score.

Poor old Curly, must be the unluckiest bloke in the world, as EVERY team he supports just happens to get the rough end of the stick when it comes to umpiring, what are the odds!CURLY wrote: ↑Thu 20 Jul 2023 10:46amshanegrambeau wrote: ↑Thu 20 Jul 2023 10:41amCurly

You must have also missed the 2 plum LBWs the umps didn't give out that the Poms had to overturn with DRS...

Re: 4th Ashes Test
I guess we'll know more about the pitch at the end of England's innings. If they score 450+, they will win. If they score less than 300, we will win or draw.

Re: 4th Ashes Test
Oh sorry, I forgot, no Australian batter has ever legitimately been out LBW before, the umps were cheating every time!CURLY wrote: ↑Thu 20 Jul 2023 5:03pmThe_Dud wrote: ↑Thu 20 Jul 2023 4:33pmPoor old Curly, must be the unluckiest bloke in the world, as EVERY team he supports just happens to get the rough end of the stick when it comes to umpiring, what are the odds!CURLY wrote: ↑Thu 20 Jul 2023 10:46amshanegrambeau wrote: ↑Thu 20 Jul 2023 10:41amCurly

Re: 4th Ashes Test
I cannot see England winning.
Buckley’s!
Not only that England will lose this game, and the ashes, the whole Bazball thing will be over…a parody will remain.
Rain will force them to make a ridiculous attempt to score quickly.
It will be pathetic. It will like a suicide Bonzai charge at Saipan 1944 as the English batters get themselves destroyed.
Sadly
I want a tight contest.
I want 2-2 and a finale.
But they had to get Australia all out for 166 and then be 0/80 at the end of the first day to have a fighting chance
With 8 batters , Australia can easily bat out a draw..which they won’t because they won’t have to. Instead, they have the safe knowledge and belief that will give them confidence to kill.
Absolute domination.

Re: 4th Ashes Test
Unfortunately I think this pitch will suit the Poms perfectly, all they need is one batter to not throw their wicket away and that 300 run total will disappear very fast. Perfect batting conditions yesterday, there are no demons in this pitch.perfectionist wrote: ↑Thu 20 Jul 2023 8:21pmI guess we'll know more about the pitch at the end of England's innings. Whoever is ahead on run at the end of today will win IMO

Re: 4th Ashes Test
To me the problem with DRS is that has become a marketing gimmick - benefiting media and media heads getting their knickers in a knot and their voice raising by decibels
It is there to overturn obvious on field Umpire errors
And that is what it should be used for
So it is an Umpire tool, not a player tool
The Standing Umpires should be able to refer if they are uncertain but not in regards LBW’s which should remain exclusively the province of the 3rd Umpire to review the Standing Umpire call
And there is no limit
Incorrect decisions are reversed whenever they occur
In summary, DRS is an Umpire tool for the use of the Umpires - not the players
And it is an audit of “howlers” of decisions
Whenever they occur
Media heads may not get the “screeching voice” moments they live for but that is their problem
And as someone mentioned, let’s see after both sides have batted
There was movement and bounce all day
Then we may get some cloud cover!!
We are due
The other issue is Over rates - and in my opinion being deliberately used as a tactic to play with the batsman’s concentration
So we get conferences lasting minutes ahead of a ball being bowled (noting also the ages of the Pommy attack)
Back to the days of the West Indies in their prime
