Structure is not important
I’ve learnt since last night structure is not important. Losing your key focal point in the first 30 seconds of a game should have no bearing on the result.
Training now is lane work then perhaps circle work then a gsme of British bulldogs.
No idea why clubs set up game plans and open up fat sides even have players draw defenders to create space.
If you lose a 200cm gun key forward just chuck a 175cm on the ground it really has no bearing on the result.

Entries to the scoring zone differ
Simply all players in there are defended with someone on their ginger and others blocking space
If you can find someone unattended good luck
If you can find someone on the lead demanding the ball good luck
But most entries are just that - putting the ball to a contest and relying on your forwards to read the drop zone and having the physical attributes to protect that drop zone at worst bringing the ball to ground for the small forwards to go to work
We lack forwards with those physical attributes - because they are all young kids in their first or second seasons
May is not tall but he is over 100kgs hence he can defend the drop zone denying forwards that space

King needs to hit the gym after the op Build muscle tissue around the shoulders
Who knows, we may end up with a decent size forward

I guess while we were missing all those set shots the players were thinking “not my fault, it’s because King isn’t out here I missed!”

Re: Structure is not important
True, because the structure was proving such a success in the previous weeks when King was there.
The approach of bombing to 30 metres out straight in front is not working. The intercept defenders are having a field day against us and it not because we lost King in the first minute of the game. Barassi, Andrews and Sicily have all taken us apart. This is a coaching issue, either the players are being told to play like that or they are completely ignoring the coaches' instructions. Either way the coaches must take responsibility.

So who coaches our transition into fwd 50?
Is it Harvey Hayes or Enright????
I watched Sat night Owens standing there waving his arms (next to his opponent) calling for the ball
Billing’s (the kicker) simply kicked it 5-10 metres to space to Owens advantage and he took mark for a shot on goal
Point is : is that coaching ?
Or do we just not have enough ball users with Billing’s smarts?
He didn’t bomb to 30 out ?????? Why??

Unfortunately for you Teffers
Ball movement is the domain of the Senior Coach
He ticked off on the game plan and trains it
Hayes
Clearances and midfield structure
Harvey
Forward structure and patterns
Enright
Defence and positioning of defenders

Re: Structure is not important
In the scrimmages we, and a lot of teams, structure to give/receive the quick handpass banking on multiple quick hands causing an opening. I think I have noticed our structure doesn't adapt when its more open play, often not being aware that the ball carrier is in as good or better position than the handball recipient because the opposition is just sweating on the tackle or we fumble the transfer; we seem to give the turnover/hospital pass instinctively rather than feint. I wish we had more/any players that could do real time assessments of how the opposition is structured and not feed it. We butchered a couple of goals with unrealistic handballs that were probably not going to add value anyway.

I think you’re a bit dehydrated and confused from all your cryin’ Curly, YOU’RE the one that hangs out at junior footy matches abusing the umpires, remember?

Re: Structure is not important
I hope Max has a good recovery and we see him back in 2024, but he has had little or no effect in the last 4 games, so we have been effectively playing without a FF presence for that time, and only had the inexperienced Caminiti trying to hold down CHF, so no wonder we can't kick decent scores, no matter how hard the team works.

Re: Structure is not important
What rubbish. Max was a huge presence against WC. He also would have at least squared contests against Melbourne.Saint2 wrote: ↑Mon 10 Jul 2023 8:19am I hope Max has a good recovery and we see him back in 2024, but he has had little or no effect in the last 4 games, so we have been effectively playing without a FF presence for that time, and only had the inexperienced Caminiti trying to hold down CHF, so no wonder we can't kick decent scores, no matter how hard the team works.

Strong contested grabs as outlet kicks were almost the diffrence.Saint2 wrote: ↑Mon 10 Jul 2023 10:32amHe did bugger all and got beatenCURLY wrote: ↑Mon 10 Jul 2023 8:27amWhat rubbish. And execution of that?

My post above points to players being able to execute- see Billing’s

Re: Structure is not important
Correct
Our structure looks fine when we bring from half pressure like we did Sat
When we bomb away into 50 OR simply hit defenders like Sicily and May consistently on the chest through poor execution by foot we look ordinary
Any side does

Other teams structure their big defenders well against us. Are we too stubborn to adjust? or dumb as....

It's quite funny that the most negative poster in the weekly match day thread is calling out a poster for negativity.CURLY wrote: ↑Mon 10 Jul 2023 8:12amAgain with your lies.

I hope Sainter Dad checks my post for correct grammar and spelling.
