Interesting team stats
I've recently found a site which tables a number of key statistics by team.
https://www.wheeloratings.com/afl_stats_team.html
Interestingly we are middle of the pack on most stats.
Some cherry picked stats that are telling:
The Good
4th in 1v1 Defensive 1 on 1 contests
5th in 1v1 Offensive 1 on 1 contests
2nd in Contested Possessions (a surprise)
2nd in "Rebound 50 rate" (number of inside 50's defended with a rebound)
17th in Clangers
4th in Clangers against
2nd in Ground Ball Gets
18th (best) in Centre clearances against (another surprise)
4th in Contested Marks
The Bad
18th for Scoring Shots per Inside 50
1st for Intercept Marks against (no surprise here)
1st in Meters gained per disposal (against)
14th in Centre Clearances
15th in Disposal efficiency
Are any of these stats a surprise to you? what other stats are we ranked high/low in that are interesting?

Re: Interesting team stats
18th for Scoring Shots Inside 50 is a shocking indictment on our forward line and/or the delivery into the Inside 50.

Re: Interesting team stats
Sorry I messed that up (double negatives are hard!) - we are lowest (best) for centre clearances against.
10.3 per game for us, 13.3 for NM and WCE.

Re: Interesting team stats
Tonight we won the centre clearances.
We only just lost the stoppage clearances.
Infact, we won just about every stat and finished equal on intercepts.
We actually took 15 marks inside 50.
While May was devastating at HB, Marshall parked himself midway and was just as devasting, but he was intercepting in the middle, 1 possession away from attacking range.
Melbourne didn't have to work as hard to get back and when they were able to get passed Marshall they scored through small forward and had a night out, especially as they couldn't hit the side of a barn for the last month.

Re: Interesting team stats
Not really - that is the number of our 1v1 in the forward 50 - not those won - so Butler v May is still a 1 on 1 but we have no way of winning itOtiman wrote: ↑Sat 08 Jul 2023 5:01pm I've recently found a site which tables a number of key statistics by team.

We simply DO NOT GET 1v1 in the forward 50 when we kick to King and he has 3v1 - we need to be smarter
