Re: Tom Barrass
At what cost
He’s a good player
Not what we need given the cost
We need a quality midfielder and a fwd/ruck

Re: Tom Barrass
Oh well, continue to be mediocre then with the duds we have that won’t take us anywhere but middle of the road.
You get ANY player that is an upgrade to your list.
Yet some here continue to crap on about Bytel or the fact we have replacements like Van Es in the magoos lol

Re: Tom Barrass
This yr, in a bottom side:
8.8 spoils *elite*
7.1 intercept possies *above avg*
197cm
I know nothing about footy except that he's tall enough to push Dougal out of our best 25.
27 y.o.? Well, we've drafted older in the past who languished in the Zebs.
If he plays for 3-4 yrs he can do what Nathan Brown did for us, while our very young defenders learn their trade in Sandy.
Might cost a bit though. Actually, a lot

All of the stand alone teams either just above or below us.
Says it all really about what is there in reserve, whether it be young or old.

I'm not saying anyone would take that deal, but I wouldn't offer any more than that.Annoyedsaint wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jul 2023 12:51am4th round pick…..

No point sacrificing the long term future for short term gains, unless you want to be 6th to 10th forever.

Re: Tom Barrass
Barrass is on a huge contract big $$$ and WCE would want a 1st round pick for a 27 turning 28yo. He is not an immediate list need - we need midfielders thats where our dollars and any draft capital should be directed.Annoyedsaint wrote: ↑Wed 05 Jul 2023 6:44pm Available. Get him.
Next best, Himmelberg.
Then daylight to old mate Dougal….

Re: Tom Barrass
A lot of opposition players, play their annual good game against us. Many of whom we recruited, like Michael Frost, David Strooper and Spiro Kourkoumelis.

Arrgghh - Michael Frost . That 1992 final at a very windy Waverley. We got sucked into using something like pick 8 for him. It still gives me nightmares!

Didn’t the dogs use that pick that landed them Brad Johnson?

Re: Tom Barrass
Do you know why we are 16th because we have for most of the season only had 4-6 AFL listed players and some of those were Kids with all the injury's
Now that we have more players back watch how our kids in the 2s will improve with the better players around them.
We did draw with Brisbane who were 3rd at the time and watching the games look at a few of the young guys like Adams a 198cm intercept marker is still raw but doing ok, plus heath 42hit outs last week and a goal he has been playing well.
Ollie hottens played 3 games looks quick and smart Van es is struggling at times but has protentional.
Also most of the players who are back now did not do a preseason due to injury like Jones, Hottons, JB, Keeler, Allison, Heath, Coffield
We don't need Barrass with Cordy there as well.

Re: Tom Barrass
Admittedly I’ve seen them only a handful of times , but Van Es and Adams don’t look like they will make it to me. Yes I know it’s a 1st and 2nd year player, but i haven’t seen that little something special that suggests they will make it.
It’s a problem because we need desperately to find a burst mid - but to land one we will need to pay overs to prise one out and that’s where the big $ need to go.
Our first draft pick probably isn’t going to get us a hot mid in the draft (the good ones will be gone by our pick) , but might get us a nice user on the outside / winger . Wouldn’t surprise me to see us go back to trading out our 2nd round pick again to fill a need.

Good to see the Lions belting them, and we got over them by a kick!
Barass is a lot better than Howard - but not what we desperately need
