Re: Sharman on the wing?
Ross didn’t play much of the second qtr and was clearly injured
He would’ve been subbed out if Battle wasn’t already
Still on crutches

Re: Sharman on the wing?
Poor Siposs...earning 2.52 million but likely to lose his spot in 2023 about literally the worst punt in Superbowl history costing the Eagles the game. Hes been an excellent punter outside that one gaff. Maybe Sharman would like to earn millions instead of waiting in the VFL for a few scraps off the big boys table?B.M wrote: ↑Tue 04 Jul 2023 12:57am Kicking the footy is a small aspect of your ability to play the game
Getting it - air and ground
Game sense
Decision making
Execution - hand and foot
In game
Training
Application and drive
Coachability
Just because someone can kick - doesn’t make you a good player, or even a skilful player
Otherwise Arryn Siposs would have played 200 games
Leo Connolly is a case in point - can kick but lacks competitiveness- which is why he’s been put inside at Sandy, to see if he can win his own ball and tackle. He cannot!
Being a great athlete alone doesn’t either
Otherwise Steven Gaertner and Spencer White would’ve made it
You MUST tick a lot of boxes to make it as a player - that’s the art of recruiting
But the most important trait - can they consistently impact a game - because that’s what good players do

Re: Sharman on the wing?
Cost them the match my a$$
Talk about the most overrated mistake in history
I think the earlier gaff where his star team mate made an unforced error that gifted the opposition their first try when they were getting hammered was far more influential

Re: Sharman on the wing?
Sebby injured his knee in the second quarter. He thinks it’s a medial strain (similar to Hill).
We’ll excuse him just this once

Re: Sharman on the wing?
Byrnes has pace and endurance
These attributes also contribute to defence, so running the distance of the ground chopping out options to switch
I would guess this is included in match review
Without being at the game you are unable to comment on defensive running because the cameras are on the ball
I would suggest that neither Bytel nor Sharman bring to the table what Byrnes (and Wood) bring
The fact that Byrnes continues to be selected is its own commentary - and selected ahead of Bytel and Sharman
Sharman was played in defence at the end of last year because we had no height (due to injuries) and he could make up for a lack of KPP weight with his ability to jump (and punch)

I think you’re right but also believe this to be the most overrated consideration in football and IMO an enduring weakness for RTB.Killa wrote: ↑Tue 04 Jul 2023 8:18pm Byrnes has pace and endurance

You cannot have a player on the wing whose primary contribution is defensive running. Unless Byrnes has outright shut an opposition key mid out of the game and based on the numbers, that’s unlikely, that contribution isn’t enough.
If doing a defensive job, you still need to hurt the opposition the other way otherwise all he’s doing is occupying a spot to slightly curb the decision making if players that are winning more ball than him.
Give me a lace out pass to a forward over 10min of pressuring the opposition mids so that one of their 3 kicks goes to a contest instead of straight to a team mate

Nah.
Sharman to play Membrey's role - play CHF at 60 metres out. He can mark and he's a good kick.

Re: Sharman on the wing?
12 possessions on the wing is not good enough - and it included no intercept possessions which are what wingers are there for when doing defensive running - they fill the fat side hole in d50
Hill should be playing wing
Billings HF
Zac Jones HB/Mid
Sincs Mid/HB
Crouch midfield/Int
Windhager midfield/Int
Steele fwd/Mid
Owens fwd/mid
Ross Wood Hill playing on the wing/Int

“What’s Sharman missing to be an AFL player “
You’ve gone off on a soap box tangent again

While all true, a current fact is that too many of our players in our current team are poor users of the ball. Sharman is one of the few who is a good user of the ball.
Lyon in remoulding the team must improve our ball use if we want to become a genuine contender.
Now Sharman may or may not be part of that future. But unless Lyon and our recruiters can inject better ball use we are not going to be a genuine threat (except to my mental health and level of contentment!).
Sharman impressed me how he summed up a situation…kicked to advantage…hit a target
I think given game time and confidence he can play
Vortex doesn’t know his head from his ass
