Re: VFL - Sandy v Werribee
Seems to be a tough year in the seconds and Sandy. How is Highmore?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Finding out who is too good for AFL today. The best standalone midfield is schooling ours.

Re: VFL - Sandy v Werribee
See
Highmore is protecting the D50 like a fortress.
Werribee too scared to enter.
Forced to bomb from outside 50!
I knew it.
Edit: apart from that slight slip in judgment
Can happen to all of us

Re: VFL - Sandy v Werribee
So let me get this clear
Who from what you are seeing is Ross Lyon bringing in to be “exploratory” and who are they replacing exactly?

Nobody at this rate.
McKenzie and Jones on 2022 form.
Billings close but nobody to drop him for.
Bytel average.
Cordy probably the only one who could come in.

Re: VFL - Sandy v Werribee
Bytel and Connelly can't defend at a stoppage. They insist on standing flat footed and lean into their opponent and while Bytel gives effort, Connelly watches the ball loop around him and wanders off witth his head down and his hands on his hips. Attack the ball FFS.
Highmore reads the play well and has good hands, as a result he has gotten good at kick to kick. His disposal and decision making is D grade association.
Bytel, Connelly and Highmore will be sweating on 1 years deals and looking for good jobs at LINFOX logistics to supplement their wage.

Gee
Well
There we have it
Unless it is not representative of them in general
Bytel ain’t good enough.. or…relative to what we have….which ATM isn’t terribly much….

Re: VFL - Sandy v Werribee
Some StK players not up to it - even at VFL level
Playing Billings as a small forward when the ball isn’t getting forward is a waste, getting flogged around the footy - why wouldn’t you put him into the midfield and piss Connolly off who is a cat!
StKs influence on the Sandy team is telling! In a negative way
Bytel off the ground is an issue at Stoppage

Re: VFL - Sandy v Werribee
Despite all the goals, Adams and Cordy haven't been beaten in the air. Issues at ground level all over the ground. No small defenders, and no ball winners anywhere on the ground
Re: VFL - Sandy v Werribee
Sandy look very bad. Jones about the only Saint player putting in a consistent effort. I've seen better teams up the bush.

Re: VFL - Sandy v Werribee
A few observations to share with those who didn't watch.
Team:
The game is played at a much different pace to AFL level footy. Plenty of space available for those who want to work for it.
We were demolished at ground level post-contest, in the clearances, and on the spread.
Our defensive smalls wanted to play body on body but didn't have the burst speed to make that work. Either got caught with the ball, or their opponents blew them away.
Players:
Jones and Heath the only two players currently pushing for selection.
Dmac looked poor even at VFL level
Billings looked dangerous when he got near it, but seemed lost around the ground. He is not a small forward
Adams and Cordy held their own in marking contests
Highmore looks serviceable at VFL level but that's about it
Van Es not playing his usual role but a sneak peek into his future, aerial contests a big plus. Decision making on disposal still a long way to come
Bytel went off early, not sure how early because he wasn't in the game even when he was on field

Re: VFL - Sandy v Werribee
I didn't see the game but Jones 35 possessions and 7 tackles, Paton 31 possessions.
Heath 44 HO
Looks the best from a stats point of view.

Re: VFL - Sandy v Werribee
Before I right off Bytel, you said that he has no defensive capabilities at ball ups right?
Then what are/ were his strengths
Seems he may have played with an injury, unless he has suddenly been called up for a flight west?
