Cordy got 19 touches in the drawn game?

Re: Four added to extended bench.
Well…
With Gresh and Butler in the 22 and Higgins unlikely to be dropped from the 22… seems unlikely Peris plays
Campbell has been in the bench for ages so hard to see what they would give him a go now or change up the structure
Cordy is puzzling as well… with Howard, Wilkie and Battle + King, Caminati all in the 22, hard to see a pace for him
So that essentially brings in Ross for Paton which is where we started.
Disappointed to see Byrnes in the team after that dismal effort. Not even sweating on the bench.
Uninspired yet again

Yep...Caminiti stays in. Billings not rewarded again. We scream out for quality ball use and one of our best is wearing the wrong colours!skeptic wrote: ↑Thu 29 Jun 2023 8:15pm Well…

This weekend would be the perfect opportunity to try something and use this as the launching pad for the last part of season towards finals.

Bytel would be entertaining discussion with other clubs and will be free to leave.

Re: Four added to extended bench.
Why would you pick Bytel?
Some may say that Byrnes 2.5 disposals a quarter aren’t much chop… but they don’t appreciate the value of running up and down the ground for 4km a quarter and somehow not getting involved in play. Disposals, tackles, goals… those are just words. Effort wins games.

People read some stat sheets for the twos and think they know how the team should be selected.
I'd have liked to see Bytel in but again it wasn't a game that screamed 'I don't belong here'
Billings was the only one to do that but he needs to prove his fitness over more than 3 qtrs.

Some players papers look stamped tbh Billing’s Bytel might fall into that an ok HFF and a clearance mid with poor spread …nostalgicsaint wrote: ↑Thu 29 Jun 2023 11:05pm100% spot on.skeptic wrote: ↑Thu 29 Jun 2023 9:23pmWhy would you pick Bytel?

Re: Four added to extended bench.
He seems to have a massive issue which is that no one rates him.
Ratts didn't rate him.
No other list manager in the AFL rated him because they could have picked him up for free last year.
And now Ross doesn't rate him.

Re: Four added to extended bench.
Bytel’s performance last week did not demand AFL selection - he was workmanlike in conditions which suited him
Billings was not sighted in the last quarter - presumably rested courtesy of management time upon a return from injury Billings will need to get thru 4 quarters ahead of promotion
Cordy took several marks late in the match and was organised
To win promotion you have to knock the door down with Sandringham - over 4 quarters
Peris was energetic so an encouragement selection (including to serve notice on the incumbents)
Regardless of West Coast last week this game needs to be won so matchups will need to be spot on
They have some very reasonable players

Re: Four added to extended bench.
Tony74 would know what the issue is with Jack Bytel not being selected.
Can only speculate that coaches rate BNE so thought a 5 goal loss was understandable on Spud game day.
Hopefully we never get to the stage where we have 3 losses in a row and there has to be multiple changes.

Re: Four added to extended bench.
I think they have lost the magnet with his name on it.
He clearly has no chance of ever playing for St Kilda again.
He should have his agent looking for a contract at North Melbourne or West Coast.
Invite them to watch him play at Sandringham.

Re: Four added to extended bench.
Paton dropped. I think Ross Lyon has done his exploration work on Paton and I think that unless Stocker and Webster get injured, he'll be playing at Sandy for the rest of the year.
Unfortunately, Paton's inability to make quick decisions with ball in hand, and his inability sum up what's around him has meant that he's become a liability rather than an asset. He's hard working and he's brave, but he lacks the spacial awareness and the game sense that's required.

I think Lyons absolutely explored the list - he knows already what he likes
He’s given extensive run to kids he think have got it
Those he’s been unsure of Paton he’s had several looks..
I’d say they know what is on trade table - Gresham (can’t ask for much if he’s in 2’s) Possibly Billing’s but he’s injury prone …
What’s left??? Bytel???
Pretty empty cupboard

Re: Four added to extended bench.
That's right. Not much talent banging down the door from Sandy. Keeler, Van Es, Hotton, etc are a long way off and in Hotton and Keeler's case, they're simply not fit enough yet. Jones, Billings, and McKenzie need more run in their legs, too.
As for Bytel, he's another midfielder with no leg speed, so who out of Ross, Steele, Windhager and Crouch is he going to displace?
So really, there are only maybe 3 players from Sandy who could possibly step in at this point

Re: Four added to extended bench.
Maybe it's all about this "stuck in the 6-10 spot" everyone has been talking about.
Is Bytel a midfielder in a top of the ladder team? Does he have the core attributes to build on to get him there?

Re: Four added to extended bench.
Of course he does. He is no different to most players. He needs consecutive games to gel with his team mates.
BUT HE IS BEING DENIED THE OPPORTUNITY.
He’s not on RL’s favourites list. Ross Lyon isn’t as comfortable sharing a joke with Jack is he is with Brad Crouch.
Coach’s pets get games without being accountable
Bytel is younger than Crouch and has upside but we want to retain the older guy, and we are justifying to members and fans that getting rid of Bytel is logical because we’re not playing him in the seniors. Therefore it’s logical that he wasn’t good enough for seniors

Bytel may not have leg speed, but could he be a better inside mid than Brad Crouch?cwrcyn wrote: ↑Fri 30 Jun 2023 9:45am That's right. Not much talent banging down the door from Sandy. Can Jack Bytel distribute the footy and make better decisions than Brad Crouch?
Can Jack Bytel work better with Gresh, Sincs, Steele and Clark in the middle and can he read the taps better from RoMa?
Why wouldn’t you explore the younger of the two players? Let’s examine the only full game that Bytel played in the seniors this year (which was in Round 1 against Fremantle). His total disposal numbers were not high, but he was influential and he did impact when it counted.
In that Round 1 game - the only game that Jack got to be named in the starting 22 squad - Did Jack make a difference for us with centre clearances? Did he perform the role well as an inside mid, especially when the game was in balance? I say yes he did!!
Why hasn’t he been allowed the same opportunities as our other inside mids?
