It’s funny isn’t it…
In a bizarre kind of way, a sloppy win vs Hawthorn and a brave loss tonight feels like a lesser outcome then what happened

Re: Fantastic win ..and a great reboot
Have to agree with you Teff.
We came out hungry from the get go. Unrelenting pressure. Good structures. Although I thought we were a bit slow going forward at times which allowed the swans to structure up and flood our defence.
Cooper was really impressive.
In Ross we trust.
I will say one negative though. Ryan Byrnes was really bad tonight. He needs to go. We need to get Bergman and replace NWM at half back and let NWM play wing and have more shots on goal. The kids is a star.

Re: Fantastic win ..and a great reboot
My thoughts entirely. I thought the loss against Hawthorn would be a spur for this one. Good teams need to win interstate.
And the Swans have had a voodoo like grip on us pretty much since they were South Melbourne playing at the Lakeside Oval.
Your friendly neighbourhood samurai.

Re: Fantastic win ..and a great reboot
Hard to get your head around losing (smashed really) to Hawthorn at home, then next game beating Sydney at the SCG (first time since 2009 apparently).
More of that please.

Re: Fantastic win ..and a great reboot
It's called an anomaly. It was called that last week too, it was just harder to see then. You take the 4 points and you move on, just like the losses,
1st Collingwood 6 points,
2nd Port 7 points
9th Adelaide 51 points -very good forward line.
16th Hawthorn 10 points. Mitchito plays - we win.
Our form doesn't flip as often as the opinions on here.
3 of those games were very winnable.
We should already have our September holidays booked.

This year - system effort and you’re in the game and that’s shown up in results

Re: Fantastic win ..and a great reboot
I'm going to convene a gathering of the Ross Lyon Fan Club to celebrate yet another Master Class from Rossy and deploy the middle finger to some of the arse-clowning on here in recent weeks.
Buddy's 350th, New South Welshmen no doubt depressed about their fortunes in 'Origin', ventured to the SCG, at least they could celebrate Buddy's 350th, maybe even get a selfie with him amidst the inevitable celebrations. The Swans with Rampe back and after emotional tributes in the rooms, came out to play.
And then.....we kept them SCORELESS for the entire first quarter, they had their first shot on goal 5 minutes into the second quarter! All this whilst their midfield was smashing our midfield!!
And there was serene Rossy in the box, whilst Longmire was subjecting his phone to extreme violence, as his blood pressure soared to stroke inducing levels.
Then in the final quarter, Rossy on the blower marshaling the troops, watching the poor old Swans trying to get the ball out of our forward 50 was something to behold. Wherever they looked was Rossy's strangulation cage, Buddy so near, yet so far away.
Buddy kicked a couple when his opponents slipped over. If it weren't for the slippery conditions, I doubt he would've touched the footy.
A masterclass.

Re: Fantastic win ..and a great reboot
We got our structure back, and it made a huge difference. Thank goodness the midfield finally got going after half time. Otherwise, we'd be on here bemoaning another loss. The first and third quarters were solid, the second quarter was just horrible, and the last quarter was impressive.

Re: Fantastic win ..and a great reboot
The reboot is the critical part.
Sure you can drop games, and lose momentum. But you need to arrest it and bounce back, last night was the first step down that path.

I put the win down to the experienced players plus the assistant coaches. Re: Fantastic win ..and a great reboot
My takeaways;
1) That ‘organized mess’ had Ross Lyon’s foot prints all over it. (Those saying it didn’t would probably fully blame him if we lost, which brings me to the next point ..
2) we could so easily have dropped this. Some lucky breaks. Swans kicked six straight behinds having fought their way back from 0.0.0 in second. 50 m penalties, Blakey, Parker
3) Buddy is used as a decoy IMO, not for scoreboard , but he drags our best defenders with him. Interesting situation that one
4) We are now lifted back into the mid tier of the competition- from our lowly status. Nevermind the ladder right now, some of our early wins might be different game s now.
5) We are still a work in progress in so many ways..How long can we rely on Marshall like this? On a longer ground it might not be as easy?
6) This win was like discovering a water well in the middle of a desert. Thank goodness..Sooo so fine..Soak it up ladies and gents.
7) I think our collective joy is shown by all the love being shared between forum members these last few days. (Maybe there was something in that water?? )

And the usual ass clowbs are very quiet after a win…
They’ll take the 4 points but they just “hate Lyon”
Thank **** Bassatt and Board aren’t run by muppets here
If you want to insult those that don't fawn at RTB's feet, at least learn how to spell, otherwise it is you that comes up looking like the clown.
Fawning at RTB's feet? No. just appreciating the fact we have a gun Coach of high intelligence and wit, a great leader.

Re: Fantastic win ..and a great reboot
Point 3 is a little lopsided. Howard stayed still and played well but he won't get credit. He and Stocker held us square at times, they get to the right places and give us a chance.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sat 10 Jun 2023 1:04pm My takeaways;
(Maybe there was something in that water?? )

I really liked how we started the game
That is something the coaches need to take credit for. I think people are also underestimating our player leadership. Guys like Hill and Wood are complementing the captain and his deputies. Both are invaluable as mentors to our young stars
Crouch, Ross, and Wilkie are consummate professionals. Jack Steele was back to leading by example. Thought he was inspirational and was one of the guys who stepped up when the game was in the balance.
A lot was made of the hoodoo of us winning at the SCG, but I think it means zero to guys like Max King, Michito Owens, Nasia Wanganeen-Millera or Matters Phillipou. All are up and coming future leaders of our footy club
The match ups and planning was also good from our coaches and the strategies worked. I wouldn't say we beat a strong Swans outfit but a win in enemy territory isn't easy.
We still have a fair bit of work to do (in my opinion) to justify our place in finals. The Swans controlled the game for lengthy periods but didn't capitalise. Their mids and their whole team are down in form atm.
We have a brilliant backline that works well together and we have guys like Jimmy Webster and Cal Wilkie who actually defend well 1-1. They do their primary job against the best in the league
