Let’s be positive!
Pick any 3 current day players that added to our list will make us genuine flag contenders in 2024.
1) Bont captain
2)Oliver
3)Rachele
If our list stayed fit would that get us there?

Re: Let’s be positive!
You’d be surprised how much difference he would make
I like our Backs (Howard a bit iffy)
I like our forwards (if they pick Billings)
Mids missing an offensive power mid

Re: Let’s be positive!
The two guys we should have drafted a decade ago: Bontempelli and Petracca.
And Darcy Moore.
There, that should get us a premiership or two!

Re: Let’s be positive!
Based coaches votes against us it would be…
JHF
Sicily
Daicos
Who I’d like:
Sam Draper - aggressive big man, can play forward and work well with Roma.
Ed Langdon - the perfect wingman/ partner for Wood in RTB game style
Zac Bailey - quick, dangerous, skillful, good outside user under utilized in the strong Brisbane midfield.
————————————————————————-
Yes they are not superstars, but good fits for us IMO.
Per above:
The call on us drafting Bont, is hindsight bulls***.
You could pluck similar from any draft.
He was a Smokey by the WB at #4 and was never on the radar that high.
Billings was clearly ranked #3 in that draft and has been a solid successful pick.
The comparison between the McCartin/ Petracca debacle is inaccurate.
If I could take one player in the competition I’d probably take JHF.

Re: Let’s be positive!
There's not much point speculating about which star from another club we might want to have playing for St Kilda in order to be a genuine flag contender in 2024, it ain't gonna happen!
Much better to look at which players currently on the list that have potential to improve the team's chances next year, narrowed down to those who are aged 23 or under sequentially:
Nicholas Coffield
Liam Stocker
Jack Bytel
Max King
Sharman Cooper
Ryan Byrnes
Leo Connolly
Matthew Allison
Max Heath
Nasiah Wanganeen Milera
Marcus Windhager
Oscar Adams
Mitchito Owens
Anthony Caminiti
Jack Peris
Isaac Keeler
James Van Es
Olli Hotton
Mataeus Phillipou
Angus McLennan
That's 20 in all which suggests that if just half this number take their game to the next level in 2024, maybe bring in one or two players from other clubs to cover current weaknesses and bingo, the Saints'll go marching in....

Re: Let’s be positive!
Inaccurate how? We had pick 1 and could have gotten Petracca (who was the clear number 1 choice) but Trout got spooked over the Boyd trade and then tried to outsmart the draft.D.B.Cooper wrote: ↑Sun 04 Jun 2023 11:50am Based coaches votes against us it would be…

Re: Let’s be positive!
I’d like to know exactly what Boyd had to do with us?!
If that was a part of the consideration - it set us back years and an example of how amateur we were in recruiting
Just like when we didn’t select Jack Reiwoldt for reasons other than footy

Mt intention was to state the taking Billings before Bont claim is not valid as Billings was clearly rated #3, Bont a smokey even at #4.
This was unlike the McCartin/ Pettracca debacle where we clearly overlooked the #1 player in the draft.

Re: Let’s be positive!
I think it was the Emma Quayle article, that highlighted a meeting between the StKilda "brains trust" that quotes Trout referencing the Boyd deal and backing up a truck to buy a key forward as part of the lure of McCartin over Petracca.
I recall the article being republished here more than once over the years.
I do remember a "not so" funny part in the article where Richo questions Paddy's running capacity/ tank, and Trout responds positively that Paddy's dad was a XC runner.
If Paddy's dad was a surgeon, would you let the brothers operate on you Trout?

OK, we will improve. Can't put time on it but, Max, Pou, Windy, Owens, Nasiah, Hammer are a great start.
They will be handbraked by older cunning players but clubs tolerance level dropping because we tasted success for a few short weeks and we like it, want more of it. Cue C&W singer.

Re: Let’s be positive!
What big name recruit are out of contract for 24 that we can target we have to get another quality mid if not 2 and a KPF and a ready made Ruck to help Row.
I would also get a young Ruck to come up with Heath there are plenty around.
