Maybe we’re not attacking enough
Lyon’s strategy of capitalising on the opposition on turning the ball over was pretty effective in the first half dozen rounds, but now the opposition seems to have found ways to counter that. Instead of playing counterattack football, why not have a plan for a more attacking brand of football?
Heck, it’s not like we don’t have the leg speed! We have a good enough backline to hold strong for if the opposition goes on the counterattack. Our forward line needs to get far more of it, since we have the firepower up there.
Yes, we don’t have a great midfield, but the coaching staff needs to find new ways of getting the mids to use more grunt in getting it forward. Maybe they should try someone like Sinclair in the middle?
Anyway, it’s frustrating to see this team suddenly go into a slump, particularly after such a promising start. This ultra defensive style clearly isn’t working. Maybe, as the saying goes: the best the form of defence is attack

Hard to attack if you haven’t got the ball. It all starts in the midfield.

Re: Maybe we’re not attacking enough
I know what you're saying. We actually look like a bottom 6 team the way we're playing. But we're 5th on the ladder. Imagine when we actually get it all together and it clicks. Watch out comp. It's a testament to the players and coaches that we've won 7/11 playing that way.

Which is why I suggested trying the likes of Sinclair in the midfield! The Fireman wrote: ↑Mon 29 May 2023 4:12pm Hard to attack if you haven’t got the ball. It all starts in the midfield.

Re: Maybe we’re not attacking enough
Sinclair did play mainly in the midfield vs Hawks. All of the 2nd half anyway.Sainternist wrote: ↑Mon 29 May 2023 5:40pmWhich is why I suggested trying the likes of Sinclair in the midfield! The Fireman wrote: ↑Mon 29 May 2023 4:12pm Hard to attack if you haven’t got the ball. Result - lowest possession tally by some margin for the season, and involved in some good plays, but not nearly as much as when floating around HB.
If you put Sinclair in as full time mid, you get Jack Sinclair. if you put him in his previous role around HB/Centre you get Jack Sinclair AA.
Can he become AA standard as a mid in a lot of congestion, usually with an opponent, limited opportunity to read the game, intercept and deliver to forward line, I'm doubtful.
Come on Corey, take him back, and tell Lenny to shove it. (except for some bursts in the midfield as previously).

Re: Maybe we’re not attacking enough
Yeah, good points. My point was that they need to start mixing it up in the midfield. Would be good to see Windhager back. I see he had another excellent game for Sandy on the weekend.takeaway wrote: ↑Mon 29 May 2023 5:55pmSinclair did play mainly in the midfield vs Hawks. Good op
I also wonder what happened to our “go fast” game plan?
Dried up
Why?

Sincs looked out of place in the midfield, he is an outside player, and an absolute gun at it.Sainternist wrote: ↑Mon 29 May 2023 5:40pmWhich is why I suggested trying the likes of Sinclair in the midfield! The Fireman wrote: ↑Mon 29 May 2023 4:12pm Hard to attack if you haven’t got the ball. I was also hoping to see him in the midfield, looked like a fail to me.
His disposal by foot and reading the play is elite....we need someone that will get the hard ball and palm it out.
atm we struggle in that area

I wouldn’t write Sinclair off as a mid just yet

Interesting (not that I watch it a lot) but FC just on saying this list has clearly overachieved and needs a lot of work
I hope Ross just bites the bullet
They played Sam Mitchell copping it at start of year for a few Hawk belting’s….he argued if I keep playing Omeara Mitchell etc then kids like Newcomb and McKenzie don’t play….
Guess who did the damage on weekend???
Forget finals play kids focus on the list if we do it now in 12 months we are a genuine up coming outfit

Re: Maybe we’re not attacking enough
And Hawthorn are the yardstick
They are near the bottom with 3 wins - they beat us because Higgins dropped a sofa that would’ve iced it
Yes, they outplayed us, but until that drop we looked like winning
Our list is is not top 6 but the way to get there is by bringing in more talent
How would we be going if DeGoey cam in as a free agent?
Right now, he is arguably the best player in the AFL
And reportedly he was a bees dick from signing with us

Re: Maybe we’re not attacking enough
Yeah, I guess Hunter Clark being subbed out in the opening minutes of the game was quite a loss. We just don’t have the midfield quality to be any sort of threat. I’m not sure if recruiting a mercenary is the answer, unless we can get one from GWS or GCS. The problem is, if we miss finals again, we won’t be a “destination club” for any of those glory-hungry twats hahaThe Fireman wrote: ↑Mon 29 May 2023 11:06pmSincs looked out of place in the midfield, he is an outside player, and an absolute gun at it.Sainternist wrote: ↑Mon 29 May 2023 5:40pmWhich is why I suggested trying the likes of Sinclair in the midfield! The Fireman wrote: ↑Mon 29 May 2023 4:12pm Hard to attack if you haven’t got the ball. Re: Maybe we’re not attacking enough
He was exactly the type of midfielder we needed. I have to admit, at the time I wasn’t into the idea of getting him because of his reputation, but in hindsight, we sure as hell would have been better off now with a player of his calibre

Re: Maybe we’re not attacking enough
I was all in on DeGoey - at the time
He was obviously what we lacked
Throw him in there at 191 with power - and goal kicking
Alongside Crouch and Steele
And we contend imo

Did he???
He kicked 6 against us a few years back
Hey Teffers
How much impact has one man at Richmond had?
Pretty sure he’s won 3 norm Smiths
What about one man at Melbourne? Hmmm CP5 has one too
How about Bont??? His finals series in 2016 won the dogs a cup
