As I have said since Lyon was contracted, he will have absolutely the same problem Ratts had, and that is, he is the coach of St Kilda. And within that major challenge is being able to procure a list capable of challenging, it doesn't get any more complex than that.
Hence my humorous references to Lyon's magic wand and the magic trick he has that sooooo many other coaches don't possess with regards to procuring a GF list at a poor club.
Absolutely love Lyon, as a coach and as a personality, I even have an immediate family member who has a business relationship with him so I get awesome insight. But I can assure you he understands the points I make above better than anyone else and he knows the list needs a lot of work.
As I keep saying, the list will look totally different in 3 to 4 years.

We kept North to their lowest score for the year and doubled it. It was ugly but it was ugly dominance.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Mon 15 May 2023 1:53pm Which former coach said 'if we park that first qtr'...
Calling it a mulligan is just wanting to ignore the elephant in the room.
They need to work out why it happened or it will happen again against Cats, Dees, Swans...
And we'd struggle to beat Hawks and Blues now.
We failed to dominate Norf, so we aren't as good as we thought we were

Re: Mulligan or trend?
But our best this year has been way better than our best last year. Also, we didn't have as many injuries last year. We've also in reality only played two poor games out of 9 and we won one of those. Then our consistency this year has been on another level compared to last year. Even at 8-3 last year we hadn't been consistent, over games and particularly in games.Otiman wrote: ↑Mon 15 May 2023 1:03pmWe were flying at the Bye, then fell over in similar fashion. After the first two losses it was "it's ok we are still a good side and will bounce back". Clear to say we didn't bounce back. The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Mon 15 May 2023 12:03pm Nothing like 2022, we're still the 5 or 6th best team in the comp at the moment. Barring further injury disasters, we will play Finals. May not be Top 4 yet, but we're definitely a far better unit than last year.

Re: Mulligan or trend?
In early 2020 when we were playing great footy, our fwds were gatting a lot of goals out the back after we'd all flooded the backline, and other goals were chaos balls that were brought to ground.
Sound familiar?

Re: Mulligan or trend?
Another thought on this.
We haven't been "found out", but have a great big target on our heads now. Teams are (or were) studying us intently and gearing up mentally and physically for a big match against us.
We flew under the radar in the first 6 weeks and were expected to be "easy beats".
Front and centre of the media, top of the ladder. We got more attention than we could handle.
Play the teams we beat again, how many of them do we still win?

Yes, I think we will be OK too. Needs action to correct a slip though, not just calling the Port game unlucky, the North game unwatchable, and the Adelaide game a mulligan.

I’m not sure we are a flint hard team ready for that if I’m honest but I think in the next couple of years we will be

Re: Mulligan or trend?
I had it the wrong way around; from the website: "The Saints briefly abandoned the white in favour of yellow during World War I to distance themselves from the colours of the German Empire. St Kilda’s new colours were a showing of support for Allied force"Annoyedsaint wrote: ↑Tue 16 May 2023 2:22pmSo the St Kilda website is wrong? The G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Tue 16 May 2023 2:02pmWe were red, yellow and black until WW1 and we changed the colours because they were the same colours as the German flag.chook23 wrote: ↑Mon 15 May 2023 5:13pmNOT OUR ORIGINAL COLOURSThe G Train Legacy wrote: ↑Mon 15 May 2023 11:51amNice jumper. Re: Mulligan or trend?
We were as good as any other team in 2020 and could have won the flag had it not been for a hamstring injury in the last 60 seconds of our final (and still some say we are not jinxed). Whilst we didn't have the best back line, we had a ruck combo that was superior to all others. You don't need to the be the best on baller if Paddy Ryder is hitting it down your throat time after time. But from that point onwards, with Paddy's injuries and rapidly declining powers, we have struggled. RoMa is trying to do the work of two. Our backline is a bit better, and we have some promising youngsters, but the rest of the team is much the same. Our skill level held up in the first month, but has dropped off since and fell off the cliff last Sunday. We will know the answer to the question this Sunday.
