NEW AFL CEO
See Andrew Dillon has been given the gig as the new CEO.
The "boys club"continues - McLaughlin from Demetrio, Demetrio from Jackson, Jackson from Oakley who was former Commision board Chairman.
I want to own the recruitment company they employ - easiest money ever, take it look around and provide a short list knowing it will be someone already at AFL house or commission.
Clearly Commission like a ceo they can control , probably why Gale missed.

Re: NEW AFL CEO
That's one way to look at it...
The AFL is going from strentgh to strength...With the exception of Jackson, the league has improved under each of them.
Why wouldn't you promote from within?

Could save a $1m in fee to find the guy next door through?
Also this allows all their dodgy deals to stay in house i suppose as was the case with AD often and even recently with the money for Tas suddenly being announced a week after the AFL supported the voice.
Perhaps i am just too cynical in my old age.

Re: NEW AFL CEO
Michael Warner's book "The Boys Club" is a great read for anyone interested in how corrupt the AFl is, but you won't hear about any of that on Fox Footy anytime soon.

Re: NEW AFL CEO
Who do you appoint to the premier sports competition in the country? Ex NRL? Ex A League? Import from overseas?
I hope you all realise how ludicrous this sounds. Was always going to be internal to the AFL or Clubland.

Hopefully still good mates with Simon Lethlean? Will take that!
Not "Simon Templar". He was here first. Please change my username to Bumstead and if possible make me one of those very large sandwiches, thanks!

Re: NEW AFL CEO
So why have a lengthy and costly process and why wasn't the decision made a lot earlier if it was always going to be Dillion?

From Gill to Dill
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Hooker? Bunker Boss? Touch judge?
Won't go to NSW, fair dinkum, Tooheys? Race horses go wrong way, Lenny left there. Chance to learn from Ross if he stays.

Re: NEW AFL CEO
V'Landy was only in NRL for year before he became CEO and seems to be doing very well.
Maybe best person for the job , but far from ludicrous to think someone outside cannot provide a different perspective on things which isn't as incestuous and do the role successfully .

Re: NEW AFL CEO
Ridiculous.
The discussion at the last few AFL Commission meetings would have been very interesting.

Is there discussion?SaintPav wrote: ↑Tue 02 May 2023 4:57pmRidiculous.

In recent times it seems the Commission has been presented as rubber stamping anything the AFL secretariat put up. From rules, to appointments, finances, broadcast rights et al. Are the clubs meeting as the commission simply an advisory body or maybe too fragmented to go against a CEO's decision/recommendation.

Re: NEW AFL CEO
Isn’t the commission like their Board of Directors? I’m not across their governance structure as I haven’t looked into it.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Tue 02 May 2023 6:07pmIs there discussion?SaintPav wrote: ↑Tue 02 May 2023 4:57pmRidiculous.

Re: NEW AFL CEO
I believe it's called the Barry Hall process inside the commission, when the clinking of the Glencairn crystal is sounded, all present tipple towards the 2005 Sydney Premiership team photo hung proudly in the commission's board room.
