St Kilda ranked by Fox Sports
If anyone believes that the 2023 Saints are much like the team of 2022, as in both seasons after Round 6 they are 5-1, the following assessment by Fox Sports suggests this is not the case at all:
"3. ST KILDA (5-1, 142.9%)
Last week’s ranking: 5
This isn’t 2022. The comparison everyone wants to draw is to last year’s Saints, who went 5-1 and then 8-3 before falling apart in the second half of the season. But that was a record built on beating mostly bad teams (five non-finalists plus Fremantle and Richmond before they got going, and the upset over Geelong) - and the underlying numbers were very different. Between Rounds 1 and 6 last year the Saints ranked 15th for ball movement; this year they’re first, as well as first for preventing ball movement from D50 to F50. Their excellent defence has them allowing just 60 points a week. As Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne explained on SEN on Wednesday night, the only times they’ve done better than that after six rounds, they won the flag (1966) and should’ve won it (2009). This team is a legitimate top four contender and if you’re in the top four you can win the flag."
It's still early days and many more games to come, but it's hard to deny these stats. And what should encourage us even more is that, as in 2009, the team is coached by the same man who has returned to our club with vastly more experience and a totally different approach to the way he coached previously, with a very talented trio of assistants.

Ranked 1st for preventing ball movement from D50 to F50?
I'm confused.

Doggies did it in 2017, why can't we?
And everyone knows Ross is more cuddly and approachable this time around.
He's no longer 'my way or highway',
During pre-season he let Lenny/Harves/Corey do all the training.
He seems to operate as Director of Coaching rather than senior coach.
Each presser, he stresses that the 3 musketeers are amazing.
I cannot recall any other senior coach saying similar in a presser

Maggots tried to f*** us over against the brown baggers gifting them 4 of their first 6 goals. We still won.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Thu 27 Apr 2023 7:25pmNot the same level of support from the umpiring fraternity.

Re: St Kilda ranked by Fox Sports
I assume this means St Kilda are very good at preventing opposition teams moving the ball from their own defensive 50 to their forward 50, which they have displayed in all the 6 games this year.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Thu 27 Apr 2023 1:38pm Ranked 1st for preventing ball movement from D50 to F50?

I’d never come across this site before but it’s interesting reading.

It’s almost an NFL mentality. Look for good field position then back our defensive efforts to pin the opposition in and turn it over close to our goal.

You and BM kept telling us??
Coach, system, getting a whole team to buy in ….anyone can do that???
Heck even Vort/Cairsnman told us “you can’t keep sackibg coaches ….it won’t help …”
I’ll get wet wipes for the egg on your face
And can we please dispense with the lazy BM analysis “Brett had us 5-1 sane stage too…”
EVERY ONE knows we beat up bottom sides and got dudes at good times
This year we’ve played finalists from last year and played 4 of the top 8 plus Dogs at 9
No comparison

Sample size is way too small.
Having a discussion about our flag potential this time next year will be more enlightening.
Claims of a possible flag this year is crazy talk.

What's the point of being so combative and intimidatory in your comments to people who put forward opinions you disagree with?
It's quite childish and a form of schoolyard bullying which has the effect of diminishing your otherwise erstwhile contributions to this forum....
