Tom DeKonning
Played VFL this weekend (got injured)
Gubby and SOS were there watching
We are obviously making a play with our ‘war chest’
I actually don’t think he’s worth 800k but that’s what we’ll have to pay - along with a FRP

Surely he's already with Geelong.
Recruiters might have been checking out young ready to go rucks.

That would be the height of stupidity.
He’s not what we need and he is not that good.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

Re: Tom DeKonning
Guarantee we make a play for him
Ross wants another Ruckman
Is not very impressed with Rowan as a #1 ruck
He wants a combo
I think that’s a mistake

Marshall is giving our mids nothing re tap work …it’s an issue
I wouldn’t throw 800k at DeKoning to fix it

Yeah I’m not a fan either. I’ve posted about this before… if you’re going to throw money at a ruck, go all in for the best and I don’t know that De skinning is it. Haven’t seen much of him but he seems just ok to me

Re: Tom DeKonning
We have one of the best tap ruckman sitting in the VFL Campbell is really good with his feeding to the mids and his body work and marking.
So why not play him for Cordy?

Re: Tom DeKonning
Cordy is playing a role!
Marshall, if he’s giving his mids nothing, shouldn’t be in the team yeah???
What is interesting, here on SS everyone gave Marshall 5 votes
Me included 26 possessions 30 hit outs - I’d accept that anyday
BTW
Ruck taps a for the most part irrelevant

Ruck taps irrelevant….I saw what ruck taps did when Ryder was on song
The club looking at DeKoning obviously rate what rucks offer …
You funny guy
And who said drop Marshall ….you’ve started asking/answering your own rambling questions again….nurse?

Do you actually watch what's happening out on the field...
Or do you just look up and glance at the scores every now and then to see the big scoreboard when there's a replay

Re: Tom DeKonning
We need Van Es or Oscar as well as Heath to suddenly bloom. Development seems to have plateaued at a less than hoped for level?
We really need some big, high marking players.
Rowan is the only one ? Makes for a long game when its ground ball gets or bust.

But that's always been the nature of the game when top teams clash.
Crash and bash and try and get clean disposals out of the congestion to your best users.
Look at what happens in Grand Finals. It's not pretty
Coaches often say we want to play a brand that'll stack up in finals.

Re: Tom DeKonning
Heath is on the typical ruckman schedule. Will have good games and bad. Needs multiple afl preseasons before he will be a consistent member of the 22.
To put it in perspective Heath is 20.
Marshall was 21 when rookie drafted his games played by age then look like this.
21 - 1 game
22- 12 games
23 - 20 games
I'd suggest Heath will track ahead of that timeline. And be playing most of the season when he is 22.

This is why players like Owens and Pou are going to be so valuable. Can take a mark and can do it at ground level.Scollop wrote: ↑Mon 01 May 2023 6:23amBut that's always been the nature of the game when top teams clash.

King
Wood
Wilkie
Battle
Smokies

Re: Tom DeKonning
It's a fair bet he'll end up at Geelong, in fact i suspect it's already a done deal.
He'll probably get a new farm, and his wife will land an executive role at Cotton On.
And how much is Tom Hawkins being paid?

Ben King isn’t going anywhere in the short term..he has bought a house in the Gold Coast and his girlfriend has moved up there!
Agree we could do with a gun mid but may already have one in Owens and or Phillipou!

Re: Tom DeKonning
Marshall needs a back up and De Konning fits the bill well.
He has been good at Carlton in previous seasons but has maybe lost the enthusiasm of playing there.
Plus Marshall is in his late 20's, yes he has good years ahead but those years are diminishing.
De Konning could also team up well with Heath or the other young ruckmen coming through.
Plus, like Marshall, he can drift forward and take a strong mark and kick goals.
I also think we'd get him for a better price than Geelong because Carlton will make Geelong pay overs to reunite him with his brother.

I reflex cringe when I read the same old three try hard to little effect names in the forward line that have been on the menu for a couple of years and watch our relief ruck person get taken to the cleaners as a matter of course.
Makes it hard to win games you dominate let alone close contests.
Looking to see if the CPanel can think laterally.
Could Cooper Sharman be a worse option than Membrey; at least he has one party trick and has been multi skilled as a defender. No worse a kick.
Windhager languishing as an emergency as Steele struggles, clearly not fully recovered (?) and Membrey comprehensively out played. Another who may have been recalled too early, although I suppose AC's suspension forced that move (but there in there corner was Cooper).
The tactic is Cordy is replaced about three quarter time, but that one trick limits flexibility when there are 3 largely ineffective forwards that can't play other roles.
Frustrating because we are only a couple of class players short of a full hand. A low card two pair is an ok hand but often loses and temps you to raise to your cost. Result, broke. Or 9th. Same same.
System is there, endeavour is there, and pigs ears are there. We need more silk.

Re: Tom DeKonning
He’s still developing his craft offer him 550k with incentives, as anything above that would be overs.
Then we’ve still got to try and lure an A grade mid, just not Fyfe or any other injury prone mid.

Agree we need a good ruck. Only having Marshall leaves us exposed.
DeK at the Blues has looked underwhelming to myself though. Having said that is a large upgrade on Cordy.

But houses get sold girlfriends move etc
I’m sure if Bing sees little future and better $ elsewhere that can change
Then there is the chance to play with his bro

Re: Tom DeKonning
Horne-Francis didn't have any trouble reading Marshall's taps. Our mids need to get better at reading the ball off the hands, against Port all our mids were flat footed. A moving player will always break away from a stationary one.
Obviously if we are interested in TDK we think he can improve on what Marshall is doing.
