28-14

Post: # 2006019Post The_Dud »

Sorry if there is already a topic about this, I’m sure those overly concerned with the parity in umpiring decisions would have made a topic seeing as stat lines of 20-14 and 15-10 were ‘obvious’ proof of ‘cheating’.

Where did 28-14 come from? Why would the AFL and umpires want us to beat Port so badly?

Why the sudden turnaround?

How does this happen?

Why were Port getting shafted?

Games like this can’t be ignored.

Obvious baiting posts deserve sanction, not a response.

Please offer The_Dud a 2 week ban - one if he pleads guilty - Curly et al bitch about the Umpires - sometimes fairly - sometimes not - The_Dud plays the man - always

The most relevant thing with free kicks is always where you get them.
Port and the Saints both got 5 frees inside the forward 50 . They generally end as shots on goal
We got a lot more in the mid field however we did get many free kicks paid where we already had possession of the ball and were moving forward. Many of those probably helped Port as it enabled them to man up .

We only allude to the count when we lose it

Otherwise it doesn’t suit our agenda

Then we have to resort to feeble arguments like
They were OOFs or it’s where you get them that counts?!

I dont think OOF count as free kicks

And yes

Please

Give me 25 free kicks at the top of the goal square for nothing vs giving them 50 in their backline every week!

Out of bounds on the full: When a ball is kicked out of bounds without bouncing or being touched by a player, it results in a free kick to the nearest opposition player.

Are you sure??

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a game with 25 free kicks in the goal square. Btw - every kick on an AFL ground can lead to a score.

What are you talking about?

Topics dedicated to the free kick count are a weekly staple around here, one which you happily contribute to.

Why are you upset about mine? You’re not playing the man are you..?

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, and so on and so forth…

The_Dud - Curley comments on the Umpiring - I get it and sometimes it is annoying - You comment on Curley - that is worse

Even this thread is a thinly veiled allusion to Curley

I am pretty sure that it does not count in the Free Kick stats that everyone is going on about

I cannot guarantee it though - we used to be able to review the Free Kicks as part of the AFL Replay - but they stopped that when people started holding the Umpires accountable

What did you think of the umpiring on Friday night, better/worse/same compared to previous few weeks?

I screamed at the Umpires a few times

I did not see much in Battle play on - I saw him turn to play to the fat side - and see Big Fat Powell Pepper in the exclusion zone - turned back and got called to play on

I saw a few of our tackles go head high but go unrewarded to Port

I saw a lot of tackles go un-rewarded

I saw some good decisions

At the game I can vent - if you are not at the game here is the vent.

I do not think the Umpires are cheats - I think that with 4 umpires we get 4 interpretations.

I reckon if you did the big roost (The Bounce) and the umpires had to guess the distance of a 15 metre kick - they would range between 12 and 18.

I am happy to discuss Free Kicks - it gets my back up when you escalate it to implied cheating

I used to Umpire Under Age (35 years ago) and that was hard enough - I would not like to umpire AFL with all the new rules - but with the increased rules and 'interpretations' we make it easy for the Umpires to be incompetent - as in 'unable to perform as they should' - Likewise a perfectly good pilot would find it infinitely harder to land a plane blindfolded.

So - back to Friday night - finally - I considered it the same - except that the 50/50's tended to fall our way unlike previous weeks.

Technically - I did not see any howlers - but I advocate for not paying 'technically there' frees - only those that interrupt play

Additionally, however, I think Play on is called too early as it makes for poor decisions and the game would flow better if the players were allowed a few seconds to survey the landscape.

Oh - and I also believe that a touch on the shoulder should not be a free - but that the 'interpretation' should be if the tackle was dangerous.
- A trip - dangerous
- A Clothesline - dangerous
- A touch to the shoulder as your arm slips - not dangerous
- if that touch becomes an ear massage - dangerous

Holding
- Did you impede the player - No - Just a little positioning - nothing to see - play on
- Did you stop the player being able to complete for the ball - Yes - Free Kick
