Re: Cordy is important to us structurally....
He helps give us structure
Straightens is up
Is tough
Is the only one left that has the physique
He does his role
He blocks
He makes us walk taller
His contribution can’t be measured in stats
He’s everything Billy Longer was minus the hit outs and 7 touches more a game
Any one that questions the value of his one disposal in 3/4 is an unbelieving fool
Not the reason we lost though I still wished we played Windhager or Bytel for a full game instead

The statement I made in the op is not logical. It would be a reasonable claim to make if all games finished at 3/4 time

Re: Cordy is important to us structurally....
Clearly his spot in the team is only insurance if Marshall goes down during the game. We can’t have Owen’s rucking all game. Will eventually make way for Caminiti and then King. But I suspect may even make way next week.

He’s one of the worst players I’ve seen play for StK
Poor selection
Been subbed 4 times in 7 games
The arguments to justify his selection (in other words back Ross)
Are fkn hilarious

1 fkn possession in 3 quarters
And 3 hit outs vs Powell Pepper
I could play a game of AFL and stumble upon at least 3 or 4 touches…

He's less effective than Billy Longer. At least Billy was a blood good ruckman for St Kilda for a year or two.
Longer put it down the throat of Sebby and put the TBM on a platter for him in 2017

Re: Cordy is important to us structurally....
We've gotten away with his decoy full forward tactic for most games this year, but time is up on that tactic.
He can't get the agate.
North next week, we should play Campbell instead
Week after, Caminiti is available.
Bytel also deserves a run in the seniors

Re: Cordy is important to us structurally....
Well, we need someone like him playing up forward. The fourth quarter showed us what our forward line looks like when it's comprised entirely of smalls and slender medium-sized players like Membrey and Owens.
I agree that Campbell might be worth a try up there next week. I don't think Sharman could do the job.

No hurry, he was given a three year contract through to the end of 2025 season.

Re: Cordy is important to us structurally....
Its moot about Cooper because he doesn't get a chance.
Surely he would have brought more than TM.
Tim might now have a crook neck from looking around at all those uncontested marks Port defenders took.
Test for our selection integrity. Although the return of Max and AC probably settles that.
TM possibly needed longer in the VFL after his layoff and can't be a key forward with the quality of defenders now playing.
Clock ticking when you see who is in the wings?

Re: Cordy is important to us structurally....
In hindsight, probably should have left him on for the last quarter, subbed say NWM who was hobbling, the game had reached desperation stage and Saints were just bombing it in, only for Port to mark.
His height would have been handy.
According to the takeaway stats index his stat count was 9, including blocking the big defenders, getting the ball to ground, etc. RTB is happy with him - "been super for us, doing his role, sacrificing his game". We have a manufactured forward line, Cordy is there to create some space for the smalls, and also make it easier for the mid sized forwards like Owens and Membrey to have a chance to mark.
However, agree that once Caminiti is back, and then King, Cordy won't be there. However, in the meantime, I think he would be better left in instead of wasting Marshall up forward with Campbell rucking. They may try Campbell next week though, be interesting.

Re: Cordy is important to us structurally....
Well....he's a defender being asked to play key forward. Its obvious he's not suited to the role, but we need someone of his height to engage defenders of similar height.
It's not going to be for the long term. When Caminiti and King return, I'd expect Cordy to be playing at Sandringham.
The coach says he's a playing the role that he is instructed to do and is sacrificing his own game for the team. You can't argue with that.
Right now, he's all that we've got at 195cm+ who can play forward and take the physical heat when required. He came to us as a key defender and has been asked to do something unnatural to him.
Good key forwards are like gold. The reality is, if you're a B grade key defender and you've been shunted into a key forward role you can only fake it for a short time before it gets overwhelming. It may be getting to that pint now.

Those w@nkibg on about Cordy’s stats don’t mention that Allir did sweet FA for the game
There’s a reason the coach mentioned him in the presser but again some watch footy with jar of captain obvious pulls next to them
He did t get 30 so he must be Shiite
Poor thinking
I trust the coach over wanna be arm chair heroes

Got to an absolute ton of contests and made spoils or effected our movement going forward.
He’s actually the exact opposite of Cordy in the sense that despite not getting a ton of the ball, he was seen and his presence was felt very heavily.
As an example he illustrates the exact opposite of the point you’re making

Look, I don't knock Saints players as a rule but surely Bytel,Windy or even Campbell would offer more.

Re: Cordy is important to us structurally....
Seeing Aliir alone on F50 unattended after having ran down there showed a whole in a lauded ‘structure’
Appreciate that Cordy is structure (i.e. a telephone pole holding up wires in the network) but really, couldn’t Sharman or Cambell have done that?
Even Steele ? Is he 100%? I thought Bytel might have done Ok there?
Just wondering

Not sure if I qualify as an Arm Chair Hero, but I would note the following:
The opposition coaches have worked out how we are using Cordy, and have reacted accordingly. He is now much less effective at this role. In my mind he has gone from adding value to our forward line (Though if you had available then King, Caminiti and Hayes all would be preferred) to being a liability.
That with Caminiti also out that Cordy's ability to perform the Defensive Forward role assigned to him has been much reduced.
In this game Port clearly understood that our goal scoring ability is mainly via our small forwards and Owens/Poo and so set up against them.
CAMINITI
His brain fade has effected us significantly. He and Owens are our physical pack busting forwards who also take good contested marks. And Caminiti being our only true Key Forward so far on the park this season.
When Caminiti does not mark, he is importantly rarely not marked against. So the ball comes in play for smalls. WE NEED him back in as soon as his suspension is up.
RTB and our other coaches have got MUCH right this season. But, Cordy IMO no longer adds any value to our forward line.
He also now offers minimal value as the "chop out " ruck. Owens has been a revelation in this role (as well as all aspects of his game)
and so we can manage without Cordy as our chop our ruck.
Running Capacity: Cordy is nota good runner and so he is not adding value to our running game.
OPTIONS
Yes our cupboard is bare. Barer with the Caminiti suspension. Possibly barer still as the Poo is looking a little tired now, and probably should be manged for Billings in.
But Cordy has good from adding some value to offering not enough value.
So time for Campbell or Sharman. Heath does not have the tank, and Keeler too raw and not yet strong enough.
WILDCARD Van Ess (But only till Caminiti is back)
It is a pity that Highmore is out of form, otherwise he could have been an option to come is as is a good mark.

I don't know if oppo has worked out our tactics..
It seems many coaches/teams are doing this defensive set-up then 'breakout' kind of thing.
How is Highmore out of form?
Is he being left to wilt on the vine?
Maybe he could try a forward role?
Cordy has that Carlisle-lite, vibe. But very lite.
I would;
Rest Steele, Paton, Cordy and Pou
Pick Bytel, Cambell (EDIT Billings?) VAn Es?nd Sharman and (someone useful)
At Sandy I would;
Try Highmore as a forward
Send Cordy to key defender
OK..I realise Steele will not be dropped, but perhaps a forward role?
I agree that losing the Camshaft has jammed the inlet valves.

Re: Cordy is important to us structurally....
Cordy is a very important player to our team in terms of being able to play multipule positions.
Maybe we should have moved cordy to CHB and taken Battle out to play up forward as he was getting smashed.
Key defence is Cordy position and he has played on some of the biggest and best forwards and done well on them, he wouldn't have played over 100 games if he was a dud.
His experience as a KD would really help plus he is 195cm to battle 193.
The move might have straight us up more with a player like battle playing forward who has plenty of experience there as with cordy playing back
