Nick Coffield - injured, again 🙄
Not the news we needed to hear on Coffield’s progress. I am starting to fear for the lad’s career.

You really shouldn't write things like that even in frustration. There's already too much bagging of players on this site. We don't need more.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Thu 27 Apr 2023 3:22pm 23 y.o.

Re: Nick Coffield - injured, again 🙄
He is definitely part of the future. I would be very upset to see him go to another team. I think they should just give him a 2-year contract from now so that he can put his mind at ease and focus on rehab. We've seen enough to know that he's part of our best defensive unit. Could be time to fly him over the Deutschland for some in his calf .

The OP says he fears for his career.
My comment wasn't intended to be nasty, just that we have other options for his spot, such as Stocker and others.
There's only so many list spots, and SOS might want to draft or trade for a certain type

Re: Nick Coffield - injured, again 🙄
Really? By the time he comes back from injury, it’ll be the good part of 2 years since he has played a game of AFL footy. That’s a long time to be out of the game for. Can’t think of too many players who were out that long and rebounded to have long and successful careers. I hope I’m wrong, but he’ll have his work cut out for him. Not to mention, injury prone players aren’t regarded too kindly by list managers.nostalgicsaint wrote: ↑Thu 27 Apr 2023 6:32pm Could have another 10 years ahead of him.

Agree with B.M., quality players (Joel Smith) deserve as much time as possible to get their bodies right. The rewards will come.

What is it with calf injuries, there seems to be a lot more across the competition these days? Not ideal for the kid who has already missed a season, hopefully he gets back soon.

"Risk factors for calf strains in runners
There are likely biomechanical roots to recurrent calf strains—whether for gait-related or anatomical reasons, some people rely more on their calf muscles to generate power, or have a muscular structure that is less able to handle high loads"
https://runnersconnect.net/calf-strain- ... gh%20loads.
"A 2022 review in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery found that calf injury is most common in elite athletes of 22 to 28 years, more common in men, and presents as a recurring injury in approximately 19-31% of cases"

No one is saying it is great to see him injured.
Hamill had a pretty handy career before he fell over
McCartin a pretty unique circumstance
Hannerbery even better than hamill
McKenzie I'll grant.
Again it reads to me like the club is being cautious. Because the kid is seen as a long term option for us.
This isn't his 5th calf or anything drastic- the original injury wasn't even a soft tissue.
My (rambling) point is- assuming they get his recovery right (and I see no reason why they can't) he has s loads of footy ahead of him.

Re: Nick Coffield - injured, again 🙄
Players traditionally come back from an ACL pretty ordinary in their first year. By the second year and a good pre season they are back and flying.
Players don't usuallt have these sorts of injuries....
However it might just give him time to sort everything out and get his body back 100%.
His overall fitness would be a question mark for this year realistically.
Would be better to be managed and come back at full speed next year

Re: Nick Coffield - injured, again 🙄
he injured a calf in pre season and as part of comeback has re-aggravated it. Hardly unique injury ( esp considering ACL recovery) .
Give him time, let him play 4 games at sandy when he is back and then see where it goes form there.
22 year old who has finished top 5 in BF and top 10 picks. Need to be careful knee jerking

Re: Nick Coffield - injured, again 🙄
Nick Coffield is definitely a 'keeper' for me, 191 cm defenders don't grow on trees and he has shown more than enough in his 52 games to suggest he is going to validate his frdp 8 selection in 2017.
Nick, like so many other players on the list, will benefit significantly from the coaching by Lyon & Co.

Oh well, the list will be 1 short for another season, that's footy, how's our cap space, put him on the LTI list and get someone in the Mid season draft .
The list changes for 2025 have begun, always an interesting time for an avid supporter.

That list doesn’t bring me much confidence.
Hamill’s career got cut short by injury. McCartin may not even play again. We all know what happened to Hannebery! And D-Mac may not play again, either.
