Re: Voss must be pulling his hair out
Might be a good team to consider raiding.
They have an absolute beast of a midfield but really are coming on.
Walsh
Cripps
Hewett
Kennedy
Cerra
Acres
+ Saad and Docherty who missed today.
Walsh along with say Brayshaw and Serong at Freo + Anderson at GC, are amongst the hottest monster mids out there that would really take us up a level

Re: Voss must be pulling his hair out
His press conference was practically a replay of last year’s when we beat them.
Basically said that they can’t rely on winning centre clearances and stoppages to win a game of football and they need to work on all the other elements.
If I was a Blues supporter, I would not be happy with that at all.

Re: Voss must be pulling his hair out
22 scoring shots to 20.
They were on top for extended bits if the first half.
Missed many chances
Overlap play
Good in the jungle
Looked dangerous across the center
Played tempo footy from the back
I thought they were decent
kicked poorly

Re: Voss must be pulling his hair out
I don't know whether Vossie would be pulling his hair out.
He would certainly be pulling his pants up because Rossy certainly pulled them down several times. Outclassed him, to put it mildly.

Re: Voss must be pulling his hair out
There was a turning point in the game when they stopped believing. They lost hope. They thought it was meaningless to continue trying
It was deep into the third quarter when the Saints were still only 7 points up. There were so many lead changes up until this point.
Why would the Carlton players want to bust a gut when their key forward is such a dumb arse?
It was the two misses in a row by Harry with about 7 minutes left until 3 quarter time. Those misses were followed by his third shot at goal - which ended up being a stupid attempt to kick around the corner from 48 metres out from goal (even Jezza Cameron wouldn't have tried the 'Stevie J' from that distance)
The footy went virtually straight up into the air and only travelled maximum about 15 metres horizontally. Jason Bennett ( the lead commentator next to Brian Taylor) was having a chuckle to himself.
Jason was probably thinking they need to introduce an IQ test for footballers surely
It was a weird game after that moment
It happens...it happened to us a couple of times last year

Yes, it most certainly did.desertsaint wrote: ↑Mon 24 Apr 2023 7:30am it happened to us countless times during the richo - ratten years.
Self-confidence is so important in football. What our team has right now is the confidence to take some chances when trying to move the ball forward quickly because they know that, if there is a turnover, our defence is strong enough to counter it more often than not. Despite all the hoo-hah about Lyon's genius, both Richo and Ratten often had us playing an almost identical style of play to what we delivered last night: it's why our players found it so easy to adapt to Lyon's approach.
Richo never had the cattle to make a serious challenge. Ratten had much better talent to work with and, in 2020 and also in the first half of 2022, we were choking the opposition and then hitting them hard on the rebound in a broadly-similar way to what we have seen in the first six games of this season. But the players lost confidence after the bye. And there are two things that teams that have lost confidence always do: 1) chip the ball around unproductively out of defence because they are terrified of turning it over; and 2) approach gettable set shots on goal as if they are facing a firing squad.
Last night, Carlton demonstrated both of these tendencies in spades. I don't think I've ever seen anyone look more terrified in front of goals than McKay last night: and his helicopter shot was perhaps the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen in an AFL game, I actually felt sorry for him, which doesn't happen often with me in relation to Carlton players. There was also that terrible passage in which Carlton kept passing the ball further and further back to the increasing booing of their supporters. From a comedic point of view, it was a great pity that it didn't culminate in a rushed behind.
Voss certainly did not coach his team to play like this, just as Ratten did not coach our guys to play like we did after the bye last year. Which means that Voss is close to losing the players and - like Ratten last year - will probably have to be moved on. Of course he will be given a chance to redeem himself, but that rarely happens.

I just watched his presser. The only conclusion I could reach from that is Voss is a real arsehole.

Their game plan has not evolved in 12 months which means they are basically going backwards under Voss.

Re: Voss must be pulling his hair out
Carlton focused so much on shutting us down they forgot to play their own game.
Crouch, Higgins and Wilkie - were all shut down pretty well
Ross, Butler, and Howard stepped up in their absence
Focus on individuals and you lose the game.

Re: Voss must be pulling his hair out
Glad you got a take away. I couldn't understand a word of it. Carlton players must be scratching their heads too.
I believe they have the right coach and hope they keep him for at least the next 5 - 10 years.
