Improved Accuracy
Only a small sample but I can't help noticing our improved shooting for goal this year.
So often in recent years have our behinds outnumbered our goals in matches.
This has been the reverse this year in all matches and our collective tally for the first four matches is 55 goals 34 behinds.
The figure of our opposition is 31 goals 41 behinds.
This differential is largely responsible for our healthy percentage.

55 - 25 if you discount rushed behinds

Don't have Max King wasting the extreme effort of the team by kicking easy shots for behinds.

Re: Improved Accuracy
More players changing their set shot routines.
Higgins pretty much kicks using around the corner now even for 45 degree or less shots.

Re: Improved Accuracy
No coincidence accuracy has improved..there is goal kicking practice after each drill EVERY training session!
They’ve been doing this religiously since the beginning of preseason training.

Re: Improved Accuracy
Our accuracy is currently at 61.8%, the best in the comp.
Last year it was 52.8%.
From 2017-2019 it didn't surpass 48.5%.
Vastly improved. So far.

Yep I was going to bring this up also, I think we've gone at well above 50% in every game.

Maybe they are all practicing with the Skills Beast kicking harness ?
Invented by Saints own Craig Davenport - spruked by Jason Dunstall - now he could confidently kick a goal or two.

Re: Improved Accuracy
I would put Max in the Zebs for more than one game, IMHO.
Let him prove he can actually kick straight before letting him mix with the seniors.
I wouldn't mind if he joins his bro at the Suns when his contract ends. No big loss, he sulks too much, and misses too many. He won't be missed.
He's like Joe Daniher- very tall, but hit and miss, and just expects to get the ball due to their height. Take the #12 off him- he hasn't earnt it

Re: Improved Accuracy
You don’t trade away match winners..Max has only played under Ratten & Richardson…double & triple teamed due to slow ball movement.
He’s worked his ass off and will form a terrific combination with Caminiti, Owens & Phillipou!

Aside from your perceived sulking do you have evidence?WellardSaint wrote: ↑Thu 13 Apr 2023 2:34amI would put Max in the Zebs for more than one game, IMHO.

Is smacking your hand after a missing a goal sulking?
Is being disappointed in missing a goal sulking?
Or is not fronting for the next time sulking?
I cannot recall anytime that Max has shirked the next contest!
I think this ‘sulking’ is just a show of how invested he is and his disappointment - when he stops going for the next one that’s when I will have an issue
Perhaps you need a Roo or BJ type response of blaming others to get you excited
If you think trading Max is the answer I think you need to look for a different ………,

Re: Improved Accuracy
Trading Max is an option. Trading players is now an integral part of recruiting. The successful clubs trade big names and lure high potential draft picks.
Max's start to his career has been very good.
So, he averages 2.4g.2b a game, got fairly good results from a 60 game career.
He has overcome lengthy rehabs and has been injured yet again.
Trading him isn't our of the question, the question is what is he worth.
2 FRDP all day.
But, I wouldn't be in a hurry to trade him just yet. He hasn't even hit top gear yet.

The bloke kicked 50 goals last year in a dysfunctional forward setup.
How many St Kilda talls have kicked 50 in a season this century?
He literally finished 6th in the Coleman Medal race...

Re: Improved Accuracy
The fact that we have won every game is largely responsible for our percentage. Accuracy is more due to our pressure than anything else.StPeter wrote: ↑Wed 12 Apr 2023 1:14am Only a small sample but I can't help noticing our improved shooting for goal this year.

Re: Improved Accuracy
Well of course winning every game helps percentage but if we kicked 44.45 instead of 55.34 and opps kicked 36.36 instead of 31.41 our % would be 122% instead of 160%, a big difference.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Thu 13 Apr 2023 12:08pmThe fact that we have won every game is largely responsible for our percentage. So my point was accuracy has given us such a HEATHY percentage.

Re: Improved Accuracy
Its a win/win position we find ourselves in.
I dont think we will lose too many, we may be beaten but I dont think the losses will be substantial and the gains across 22 games will be massive.
