Mitch Owens

Post: # 1999158Post Sanctorum »

Based on his performance last night I think there's a fair chance Mitch Owens will be Rising Star for round 2.

Not only did he kick 3 goals, but he set up Zaine Cordy with a great pass into the forward 50 running out of the mid-field that resulted in a goal.

Owens looks to me like he will become the best of the trio drafted in 2021, surpassing even Windhager and Wanganeen-Milera. At 191 cm he is likely to develop along the same lines as Bontempelli, Fyfe, Petracca as a midfield bull who can play anywhere, stoppages, defence, attack. What really impresses is his composure with the ball, so rare for a 19 year old playing just his 9th game in the big league.

In 2 or 3 years St Kilda shoulkd have both Owens and Phillipou running through the midfield, the future is indeed bright!!

Won’t get the recognition as it doesn’t suit the narrative

I'd like Mitch to align himself with a sponsor, like someone who produces something in Asia in a country like Japan maybe. Might do well for himself and our membership.

Gee you go early me ole posting mate, you called Matteas as being the next Bont before he even played a game and now Owens is also the next Bont, love the passion and optimism but shouldn't we be waiting for bigger sample sizes?

At least 2 to 3 years before we start making comparisons to the Bont I recon.

Some people have the ability to spot talent and potential earlier than others For eg John beverage…….you may struggle in this area ?

Yeah the people who have been spotting talent since 2008 ish haven't been doing so well or have I missed some Premierships in that time? I think I've worked out why you don't like my posting, you keep coming to the fight unarmed.

Having said that it's possible we might get lucky soon and procure a list capable of a flag.

If you can't see the impressive attributes that Owens has at such a young age, you need to go to Specsavers

Absolutely has got some attributes that have allowed him to make a spectacular start to his career but so many young players before him have made a similar splash only to stall within the first 2 to 3 years and level out as GOPs.

Surely the longer we follow this game we learn not to go too early and compare players to once in a generation players like Bont even before they play their first game or less than 10 gamea...Look what happened with Sharman as a recent example.
