It might be feral but having draconian rules that punish a player just for pointing at a screen, thus giving a 50m penalty on top of an already incorrect decision certainly doesnt help, and won't help educate any supporters in the slightest.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Mon 20 Mar 2023 12:48pm Its simple dont question their decision ala every other professional code (except Soccer). The 50 metres are harsh and costly but the players know where they stand. The AFL took the stand to eliminate it as a result of how it flows down through to the lower and junior levels.
AFL is an emotional sport but some of the abuse and language that gets thrown at umpires and players during games is absolutley feral. People who would rarely speak like that in public, its an indictment on society and it needs to be stopped. Unfortunately it starts with the players showing dissent - hence I completely back the AFL's stand.
Having said that a lot more needs to be done at games to prevent and educate supporters that their behaviour is not acceptable.
