SEN Umpire dissent
Kane Cornes raised the two calls that of course went against us. He was adaament that the umpire was far to sensitive and this is not what the rule was about.

Re: SEN Umpire dissent
If the umpires want respect, they should probably be more receptive to the queries of the Captain and V.Captain.
The commonly held view is that umpires should not be questioned, they very rarely change their mind and make far less mistakes than what they get right.
This is the realty.
I'm not concerned about it though, this club needs its passion restored, Steele and Wilkie clearly aren't prepared to leave anything on the table unquestioned.
Let the young guys feel it and learn. It's will be an interesting review point.

Re: SEN Umpire dissent
I heard from a mate the that sniper f*** face from Richmond, quite often politely told a number of umpires at the breaks to please review certain decisions, because we already have, and see if they think they have room for improvement. That is not dissent, that is negotiation.

Re: SEN Umpire dissent
I thought that players would have learnt from last season with the current rules, to shut their traps when an umpire gives a free against them. Two unnecessary gifted goals to Freo were from brain-fades from two of our experienced players.

The important thing is, nobody dropped their bundle. We lost the lead, we lost momentum and we came and took it back. The rest is just theatre.

Re: SEN Umpire dissent
Players probably need to be instructed to leave off with any manner of objection and to leave dissent to the crowd.
Then again, the umpires will probably lighten up a bit on this having used us, again, as an example. (was it rd 1 last year where a 50:was paid against dmac for pointing at the turf?)

Re: SEN Umpire dissent
Its simple dont question their decision ala every other professional code (except Soccer). The 50 metres are harsh and costly but the players know where they stand. The AFL took the stand to eliminate it as a result of how it flows down through to the lower and junior levels.
AFL is an emotional sport but some of the abuse and language that gets thrown at umpires and players during games is absolutley feral. People who would rarely speak like that in public, its an indictment on society and it needs to be stopped. Unfortunately it starts with the players showing dissent - hence I completely back the AFL's stand.
Having said that a lot more needs to be done at games to prevent and educate supporters that their behaviour is not acceptable.

Re: SEN Umpire dissent
My issue was not that they were paid against us - it is that they were NOT paid in other games throughout the week
Maybe we got Umpires 33 to 36 in order of talent instead of 25 to 27!!!!

Re: SEN Umpire dissent
Perhaps the Umpiring Coaches/Mangement suggested it was line in the sand game and ensured it was enforced. Steele admitted in the interview immediately following the game that he and Wilkie had done the wrong thing, so they absolutely know its a breach.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Mon 20 Mar 2023 12:51pm My issue was not that they were paid against us - it is that they were NOT paid in other games throughout the week

What did you think he'd say? Umpire got it wrong surely you can point to the replay they've done it all weekend.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Mon 20 Mar 2023 1:39pmPerhaps the Umpiring Coaches/Mangement suggested it was line in the sand game and ensured it was enforced. Re: SEN Umpire dissent
Asking an umpire to look at a replay is an exercise in futility.
I must add though I thought neither were worth a 50 metre penalty!

Re: SEN Umpire dissent
And therein lies the issue - plenty of other games this weekend players pointed, threw their arms in the air and remonstrated with umpires for no 50m penalty to be awarded
It seemed they had softened a little then suddenly ..... in our game .... Boom!!
There were a few instances where we could have had 50s ourselves yesterday with players moving around on the mark - I think we got one but there were others there to be paid and weren't
You do feel for the umpires at times as the League don't make it easy for them but all we ask for is a bit of consistency

Re: SEN Umpire dissent
Dissent should never, ever be a 50m penalty.
The opposition should not benefit from something they haven't earned.
Report and fine the player and the club.
$2000 to start and doubled for every repeat.
The player fines only double where it's the same offending player, but the club fine doubles for every incident.
Watch it stop immediately!

Manuel,
Don't mention the war.
I did but I think I got away with it.
Maybe not.

Re: SEN Umpire dissent
The 50m penalties were clearly there, for obvious dissent.
The problem was with the almost non-existent bases for the original frees.
Pointing this out to the umpires it was wrong in terms of form (Thou shalt not show dissent) and right in terms of content (they were crap decisions).

Re: SEN Umpire dissent
The one against Wilie was ridiculous.
He smiles and lift one arm towards the replay of the poor decision.
How could you resist? Totally natural response to a bad decision.
There was nothing angry or intimidating whatsoever.

The current bunch of maggots are over precious. Been lead to believe by the AFL that they are beyond reproach.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Tue 21 Mar 2023 8:39am The one against Wilie was ridiculous.

The guys on Saints TV agree with the majority on here that they made poor decisions in that game.
