As a Neutral Supporter
That was one of the worst Umpired game of Football I have seen in a long time
Multiple occurrences of one rule for one team a differing rule for the other
Four Umpires still cant see multiple dropped balls by Carlton - but ping the Richmond one.
Just not up to it.
This was the opening game for the season and there were 88,000 people there to witness that haphazard umpiring
But the AFL will laud this as a great opener with a fantastically tense game that came down to the last kick.

I missed the 3rd qtr n most of the last.
What I did see, though, seemed to show the umps had no clue

As neither a Carlton or Fremantle fan I thought B. Acres should not have dropped that last mark. But he did.

On that performance both Bluescum and the Tuggers will be in the middle of the pack somewhere
I wouldn't be banking on them making Finals

If their middle of the pack, we're in BIG trouble.

Those pushes in the back at the ruck throw-ins are bulls***. I know ROMA does that as well but they should be a free kick.

Both sides have 3-4 really great players who all helped the game from getting submerged in drossVortex wrote: ↑Fri 17 Mar 2023 7:47amOh yeah if that is middle of the pack then I am so jealous.
Realistically both clubs have a bottom 6 that are no better than our bottom 6
I think both teams have limited depth and any injuries to their best 6 will play havoc with their chances
Oh and BTW Daniel Rioli is now officially a jet

I watched a quarter and a bit. Thought it was a s*** boring game so tuned into new season of SEALS which was far more enjoyable.

Re: As a Neutral Supporter
I think its more one team having practiced a technique rather than umpiring bias. A number of Carlton players dropped the ball like a hot spud only to given a free for holding the man. That rule was poorly adjudicated as one in 10 tackles actually knock the ball out, players are given far too much leaway for not disposing of the ball properly. Its all about keeping the game moving but it really allows players to expose the rules.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Thu 16 Mar 2023 10:03pm That was one of the worst Umpired game of Football I have seen in a long time

Re: As a Neutral Supporter
I do not believe we will see a team this weekend that plays a type of game capable of winning a final. First game of the season, nerves, rust, a realisation that what is practised over summer is harder to execute against an opposition also wanting 4 points.
Both Carlton and Richmond will improve, as will all teams. It is highly probable Geelong, Melbourne and Brisbane will look average this weekend. They may win but they won't be playing the type of footy they want to play come September.
It is for this reason St Kilda may be a chance against Freo, a very small chance.

You know now we get the 33 - 36 best umpires in the country as opposed to the 24 - 27th

Also, the set-shot goal kicking tonight has been exceptional.
Very jealous.

Re: As a Neutral Supporter
I'm watching the ODI. Why? Because I support the Aussies and hate every other AFL side, with the filth and the pussies at the top of my hate list.
So I am watching a team I enjoy watching.
Unfortunately, they are not much better than the Saints.

Re: As a Neutral Supporter
Why is it so hard to get decent commentators. This guys in a bar having a chat style not really calling the game action is painful.
And big injuries to both teams.
Fitness and never give up attitude could take any side a fair way this season.
Having a pendelbury would be helpful too.
