Shall we do a selection competition?

Post: # 1996269Post shanegrambeau »

A couple seasons back, in the darkness of lockdown, I proposed a simple but (I thought) fun selection competition.

I offered to put up a bottle of shouchu or sake to the winner.

The idea of the game was to pick the list of players you thought would get the most games.

It almost had legs, and took off, and someone kindly offered to help out with the spreadsheet.

Is it worth another shot?

Just choose players in three columns. But you CANNOT change. They are locked in. That is the fun part.

There would be premium players - You get 8 points for every time they were selected.
Middle-tier players - 4 points
Basic players - 2 players

So if you reckon Kingy is a premium you would have to weigh up the odds of Kingy getting say ten games for 80 points, 16 games for 108 or 4 games for 32, BEFORE the season starts

If, on the other hand, you figured him for a basic player, the risk/reward would be lower, at 20, 32, 8 points respectively.

So what do you think.

You can pick (and lock) 22 players and SUB does not count.

What do you reckon?

Boring Shane or Brilliant Shane?

Interesting

are there restrictions for each column

Otherwise wouldn’t you put everyone in the max point column

However shouldn’t it be 23 now

Also are there restrictions for each column

Oh yes...definitely restrictions for each column...
My bad..

Option A
4 Premiums
8 Middle
12 Basic

(24 players)

OR

Option B
8 Premiums
8 Middle
8 Basic

(so it is 24 players!)

Oh! Is there NO SUB this year?
If it is 23 on starting day, then that's fine too.

I was a bit iffy about sub because someplayers like Longy last year, seemed to be selected as Sub

Which option do you like A or B?

I think it would be fun. Might be more interesting if the score system.was reversed.

I thought it might be interesting, from a development perspective, to see now, how we will go, seeing we have a number of potential debutantes.
Picking Steele Ross, Crouch and Marshall is fairly easy 2 points.
Picking Adams for 4 games and Phillipou for 15 for 8 points might be a bit more challenging.

Hang on..

So you are suggesting a list of debutantes from which we must select a minimum number of premium choices?

So say. we make three groups, and make players choose a minimum of x number of players from?

Ok then..

So I'll add an Asterix for debutants and make a rule that players need to spend x number of points minimum on them.

Budget for 24 players is 112 points (8 premium, 8 middle, 8 basic)
BUT
You must put two debutantes (or equivalent point wise) in each category?

So say you put Mattes and Cav in for premium
and two more for each..

Debutants List
Anthony Caminiti (pre-season supplemental selection period),
Zaine Cordy (free agent, Western Bulldogs),
Olli Hotton (No.35 draft pick),
Isaac Keeler (No.44 draft pick),
Angus McLennan (category B rookie),
Mattaes Phillipou (No.10 draft pick),
Liam Stocker (pre-season supplemental selection period),
James Van Es (No.31 draft pick)

Non-debutants List
Nick Coffield
Zak Jones
Jade Gresham
Brad Crouch
Seb Ross
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
Bradley Hill
Jack Steele
Mitch Owens
Hunter Clark
Max King
Ryan Byrnes
Jack Billings
Dan Butler
Marcus Windhager
Jack Hayes
Rowan Marshall
Dougal Howard
Jack Higgins
Jack Bytel
Josh Battle
Oscar Adams
Tim Membrey
Jimmy Webster
Matthew Allison
Mason Wood
Ben Paton
Tom Highmore
Jack Sinclair
Daniel McKenzie
Leo Connolly
Tom Campbell
Max Heath
Cooper Sharman
Callum Wilkie
Jack Peris

Can anyone / does anyone have the computer chops to .put a simple table in this thread, so we could put players in three columns into it?
