Leadership group

Post: # 1995866Post WellardSaint »

Posting because I can't see it posted yet

Capt: Steele
VC: Cal Wilkie
Membrey
Sinclair
Ross

I would've preferred someone else instead of Ross, maybe Battle, Crouch, Howard

When we were flailing in games last year, Ross was one of the few who kept pushing hard. His work ethic is an example to others

Like it on paper.

Reality is unless you are there on a day to day basis mugs like us have NFI who are good leaders or not, especially around the group when things are not going well.

I understand that the players vote on such matters.

We have NFI but the players know who the leaders are.

Would have liked to see someone younger in the group.
Best way to make leaders is to give them an opportunity when they're young.
Players like Membrey and Ross are already leaders.

Have we learned nothing from the Grant Thomas approach that gave us so many wonderful leaders?

I agree to some extent but not sure if it's appropriate this year for the current list of younger players

This year's draftees and last year's crop are way too young. Let them focus on doing the basics and concentrating on fulfilling their roles on game day

Same goes for Clark, Coff, Paton etc. They need to get back to their best and show they are role models before being announced as leaders

I think Crouch provides leadership so not that fussed if he's not in the official leadership group. Having both Jack Steele and Seb Ross is good for the midfield set ups

Howard already gave it a go and maybe he's not suited to the role at this stage of his career.

I think it's good that we have leaders on all lines.

I'm sure that Gresham and Battle would have benefitted from the opportunity to grow...I think it would help Higgins game, too.

I'm glad we have a standalone captain. I can't stand the co-captain thing. It reeks of indecisiveness. So wishy-washy!

Those inside the club know best.

Hayes, Harvey, and Goodard know plenty about leadership and they'd be able to pick those qualities in others

Leaders will lead regardless of whether they have a designation next to their name or not.

I agree

I was thinking the same as you, but we don't know if they put their hand up or if it's something they aspire to?

Batts had a really good year and 2022 was his best and most consistent in his career. Both Gresh and Batts polled really well in the best and fairest too

I'm sure they will have growth if they stay fit and continue to be key players in 2023

I've posted previously that I thought Jack Bytel would make a great captain one day...but let's just wait and see if he can cement a spot in the team first.

Jack Steele started 2018 with games at Sandringham. 3 years later he was captain

Was it the same issues he was having at Port Adelaide?
