Absolute disaster of a line up, why? lacks proven goal kickers.Banger9798 wrote: ↑Fri 17 Feb 2023 3:23pm Gresham Howard Billings

Why on earth you would have Howard and Sharman there beggers belief.
It will just have to be a small forward line, just becaue someone is tall doesn't mean they are an automatic selection.
Having said that we need to wait and see how the first game goes agaisnt Melbourne, if Sharman can dominate one of the best defences in the league then I'm all in. Now just because Howard spent a few minutes down there today doesn't mean Ross will be silly enough to go with that in a 4 pointer.

Let's see how you line them up Vortex.
We're missing King, Membrey Allison and Hayes
Someone has to bring the ball to ground.
But by all means put up your version.

Re: Banger, backs in short -assed attack.
Membery is expected to be available for R1. So Members and Wood are the tallest we got. The forward line has to have as many AFL capable players who are proven goal scorers if we are any chance or kicking a winning score. Let's see how Sharman goes against the Melbourne defence but if he continues where he left off from last year then can you see Ross playing him?Banger9798 wrote: ↑Fri 17 Feb 2023 9:23pm Let's see how you line them up Vortex.

Howard left a football club because be refused to play in a forward line.

Re: Banger, backs in short -assed attack.
Steele can play ff if Membrey unavailable. Wood and Sharman share chf. Higgins, Phiĺipou, Billings, Gresham making up the 6. Till King comes back. Hill will kick a few as well. Defence is going to be tight as a drum. Up to mids to hold their own.
We might not make the 8, but sides are going to know they have been in a scrap. Bulldogs and Sydney might be vulnerable to us and Carlton. Freo no certain finalists either.

I hope we don’t play Steele at full forward, we will be giving up so much at the clearance if so.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Fri 17 Feb 2023 11:24pm Steele can play ff if Membrey unavailable. Re: Banger, backs in short -assed attack.
I saw heath and Campbell rucking on Friday against each other, so would we have a option of playing Marshall in the forward line and rucking some of the time and having Campbell rucking most of the time then going forward, Campbell did take some nice marks forward and kicked a goal so don't loose to much if he is there he would at least bring it to ground.

Re: Banger, backs in short -assed attack.
The forward line, even with Membrey, looks like a spare parts fwd line that we had in the late 70s and early 80s, when the club thought Milan Faletic was a viable marking key position player.
And when we had Mark Scott playing at full forward (from Hawks, when we gave up Russell Greene?)
We are in no shape whatsoever to kick a winning score.
Melbourne's May will have a field day

The praccy match against Melbourne will give us a glimpse at how far our fringe talls have come in the off season.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Mon 20 Feb 2023 1:04am The forward line, even with Membrey, looks like a spare parts fwd line that we had in the late 70s and early 80s, when the club thought Milan Faletic was a viable marking key position player.

In the praccy match vs Dees, I predict:
Higgins - 11 touches, 3 marks, 1 goal 3 behinds
Butler- highest pressure rating in our team, for 12 touches, no score
Sharman- 4 marks, 12 possies, 1 goal 2 behinds
Marshall- (stats while in the F50) 6 marks, 14 touches, 3 goals
Wood- 18 touches, 2 goals
This isn't a top 8 forward line

Re: Banger, backs in short -assed attack.
Hold onto ya hat WS, it could be a very frustrating year but those are the cards we have to play because beggers can't be choosers. Who knows the small no name forward line might score more than we think especially if we can play a little like the Pies of 2022. Having said that the Pies caught many off guard in 2022 and really their scoring was an issue and very was very low in many games and won numerous games from freakish plays. Many club analysts would have studied that game plan to prepare a defence. A bit like Richmond catching the comp out with their small forward line in2017, clubs were ready by the time 2018 arrived.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Mon 20 Feb 2023 3:41pmI'm gonna be a grumpy old Karen now, so scroll on if you're easily offended.Vortex wrote: ↑Mon 20 Feb 2023 7:51amThe praccy match against Melbourne will give us a glimpse at how far our fringe talls have come in the off season.WellardSaint wrote: ↑Mon 20 Feb 2023 1:04am The forward line, even with Membrey, looks like a spare parts fwd line that we had in the late 70s and early 80s, when the club thought Milan Faletic was a viable marking key position player.
