Re: Wilke press conference
I enjoyed what he said about forward options. Here is one he intimated could be tried as a forward

Not "Simon Templar". He was here first. Please change my username to Bumstead and if possible make me one of those very large sandwiches, thanks!

Re: Wilke press conference
I get the feeling our great captain, likes it when his vice captains do the interviews.
Jack has clearly put in the time on some public speaking and he looks the part, but off field, he doesn't strike me as inspirational leader.
While his own performance hasn't faltered, it has taken self driven kids like Windy, Owens and Phillipou to show inklings of a higher standard to follow.
I also believe that a leadership void has been addressed by the intake of assistants, Harvey, Hayes and Goddard and of course see Ross Lyon himself.
So, while I'm not predicting a change of captaincy, I'm expecting Wilkie to be prominent in Lyons plans, if not co-captain material. If Geary proved himself, then I can't imagine Wilkie is far behind.

Re: Wilke press conference
Seemed light hearted and all played it in that spirit.
How might Mr Wilke go if he was asked:
- what do you think about the theatrics when Dougal is out marked; ( ans: what do you mean?)
- are you concerned Jimmy W seems to often fall over in the contest; ( ans: don't think that's right)
- what do you say to Jonesy when he just immediately turns the ball over in the middle after you have been defending desperately for 10 minutes straight. (ans: never mind mate, next time, only a 12 point play, nearly have my breath back, you ok?).
- How do you compare the atmosphere between Ratts and Ross, where one seemed to care deeply for individuals and the other only cares about team results? (ans: both are extremally focused on team process, both want same thing; just one is a bleeding heart and the other a callous b...... and we can't get away with anything now, even when we cry.
Andrew's interview smile might be replaced with that look he has when he is up the clacker of a big forward charging for the ball towards the pocket - the no mercy, no prisoners look.
Scares me, and I support the Saints.

Re: Wilke press conference
What the hell are you talking about?
Steele has an interview just from last week
Seb Ross the week before
Someone has a media interview every week - next week it’ll be Dougal or Tim
These little media conferences have zero to do with captaincy and sit very low in priorities when deciding a skipper
1/ Driving standards
2/ Plays rôle consistently
3/ ability to influence others
4/ ability to influence games
10/ media profile

What are you talking about?
The review talked about lack of leadership, the coach was sacked, the captain knew nothing of it and was shocked, while still on holiday.
Wilkie was at training saying how excited everyone was at the new opportunities for higher standards to be driven.
I only mentioned Jack Steele because you did. We need more leaders not less.
My point is, whatever reason Geary was chosen as Captain, Wilkie has that covered, other than the fact he was handed the job by a retiring club legend and there was no one else remotely fit for the job.

Re: Wilke press conference
Geary was an obvious choice as Captain and was good at it.
As is Steele
A different type of leader.

Re: Wilke press conference
Next to poor skills, onfield leadership has/is our next biggest weakness. Jack went ok last year but still has some growth in the space.
Wilkie's interview with Maxy H was a good representation, he wasn't so giggly and flaky, I think if you are captain material the lookerroom persona should be saved for behind doors.

Yeah. I was wondering that too. Censorship is alive and well it would appear.

Re: Wilke press conference
those posts were ok , there was nothing wrong with them, they were simply covering how good Wilkie was in the interview.

Re: Wilke press conference
I received a PM asking why posts were removed from this thread.
Just to confirm that I haven't deleted any posts from this thread.
I've looked at the moderator logs which log every post deletion and edit as well as bans, post approval requests, topic locks etc and there is no record of any deletion of posts from this thread.
It's a mystery.
Would be happy to post a screenshot of them if I knew how. I know how to take a screenshot but no idea how to get that pic onto the forum. The logs are not able to be edited or amended, not by a mod anyway. Maybe the board admin has that power, I don't know. Very unlikely that BFUSA would pop in and randomly delete some posts from one thread or edit the mod logs. He's not active on the forum at the mo. So sorry I don't know what's happened.

Re: Wilke press conference
Also to clarify - the only reason I sometimes delete posts is if there are duplicates of a post or in the case of a post incurring a suspension because it's particularly crude or offensive. In those cases I try to remove the original as well as all quotes and copies of the original so the offensive content is no longer on the forum. Some personal insults or attacks that incur a suspension I leave on the forum so other posters can see what is considered over the line.

Re: Wilke press conference
I think someone’s mentioned something about Wilkie saying we are now ‘all on the same page’.
This, I hope of course is true, but I also wonder if my suspicions that with Brett (and the soccer coach modern mentor did helping him) set things up differently - the ‘new way’, where groups are created and where different personality types are taken into account and where the team message is filtered through these groups. Perhaps even training and self accounting standards are compared. I suspect it is an attractive idea, but it ends up meaning the team is broken up and there is not a ‘one spirit - one team - one team’ thing going on. I suspect Ross the b is old skool but that old skool is sometimes looked at in a negative way. I still look for reasons we were cracked open by Essendon and fell away. I do wonder about Steeley as captain but I’m be sure, I don’t know what the captain does

Yeah, there were posts removed. A poster who shall remain nameless was critical of Wilkie and I responded by saying that there always had to be a critic..I can't find any reference to either post now.The Fireman wrote: ↑Mon 06 Feb 2023 2:59pm my apologies to all and the moderator... there were no posts removed from this thread.

I think there's just a bit of cross thread confusion. This thread was referenced in the 'Training' thread. I think you will find those posts in that thread.saynta wrote: ↑Mon 06 Feb 2023 4:24pmYeah, there were posts removed.
