Robert Harvey
The misconceptions about him have always irked me
He is seemingly shy with strangers, not an extrovert who can’t shut their mouth. He is generally quietly spoken and only says what is required
However,
Having been to a few sessions now, one thing is obvious
He is the most vocal coach (perhaps along with BJ who I think still would love to be playing!), Banger is very demanding and doesn’t mind saying it as it is, as well as being encouraging when he needs be.
He is definitely not shy on the track, and is obviously confident in his ability to coach footy.
All assistants are up to their eyeballs in it! They seem to love it, and love working together! Very involved and their enthusiasm is infectious!
Doesn’t hurt that they are all legends of the game (except Bachelor)
Even DC was a VFL legend
Games record holder, Multiple B&Fs and 4 premierships with Springvale!

Re: Robert Harvey
Not really. Lenny was recruited while Ratts was still coach and BJ is on record as saying that he wanted a gig under Ratts.

With the Board knowing Ratten was gone .... and maybe even Harvey & Goddard being told as well and that Lyon was coming in

Re: Robert Harvey
The challenge with/for Harvey is that he just doesn’t generate a lot of buzz one way or another. He’s been an assistant coach for 10+ years and I could honestly not say that I’m aware of whether he has a god or bad rep.
Harves has
Worked steadily the entire time which is good
Changed clubs a bit which I think is par for the course
Taken over an interim coach but didn’t get the gig which is both good and bad
A reputation in the media as being unable to lead
Good and bad stories from the fans of the clubs he coaches
My gut tells me that like everything he’s done over he’s entire career… it’s a case of he does exceptional work but doesn’t make a lot of noise about it.
It’s a good and bad quality because he’s a gem as has been suggested but it does hold him back a bit too.
Like the whole Hird v Buckley v Voss debate. Harves was the best of all of them but his lower profile IMO contributed to him being robbed of the credit he deserves.
I wonder if Harvey will take on more of a match day thing or be looked at as the natural successor to RTB over time.

Re: Robert Harvey
Goddard is on record stating he went for the dev coaching job 2 weeks before Ratten was sacked and he had no idea it was happening

Re: Robert Harvey
Out of interest BM, seeking a purely personal opinion here.
Do you think the club has contact with RTB or possibly had him unofficially lined up before Ratts was sacked or do you think they sacked Brett and went after the best candidate available?

Sorry if I have missed something.
Is Roughead still at the Saints and if so in what capacity?

Re: Robert Harvey
I’m happy to see BJ back in in the fold.
On Sunday footy show last year he was on and when asked “StK or Ess? “ he replied Ess. ( probably as some guys he played with were still going plus more recent ) and I think we were a bit stagnant now there’s a buzz about the place and the supporters are optimist that we’re on the move.
Plus Rob back too indicates optimism

Re: Robert Harvey
Thats where I'd have positioned myself too. Ratts was doing down one way or another.
October was much wiser than May this year.
He had to make finals but first he had to win his players back.
I spoke to a few players at 1-3 training. None if these guys lost any sleep over Ratten.
Bytel, said he was stoked.

Confirming what many suspected Brett’s a top bloke…had lost the players…
Board knew it and imho webt soft on him during the review in terms of what they published so as to manage reputation..
Anyway, I hope Ratten moves on to a happier life stage (he’s a genuinely likeable guy) the top job just ain’t for all.

Re: Robert Harvey
Interesting side line. The Captain wasn't there. Wilkie was, so was Mason Wood, Hill and Campbell and they knew what there job was.
My guess is, the major improvements will come from this group.
Gresham, Billings, McKenzie, Webster, all injury prone, better get there s*** together.
If only for a short time before they get traded.
Yet another preason recovering from injury.

CQ I be also read on BF that Ross has apparently flagged this year openly as one where he’s looking to see who cuts it…who can’t …,CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Thu 12 Jan 2023 1:19pm Interesting side line. Are you expecting a reasonably sizeable list turn over come seasons end?

Re: Robert Harvey
I'm expecting a few blokrsto pull their finger out. I mentioned the ones we need to fire. Injury won't save them.
