Who needs to be pushed out for us to really take next step??
Saw similar on BF (good discussion)
I agreed with
1. Webster
2. Ross
3. Jones
These guys playing twos mean we’ve got better kids replacing them
Progress!

Why can't Lyon touch them with his magic wand and turn them into premiership players also. Seems a bit mean to not let them catch a ride on the magic carpet.
All three will more than likely play every game unless injured with maybe Jones being the one that has a carry over of his issues from 2022.

BTW
Ross finished 5th in the B&F last season
Maybe there’s 17 other guys in the 22 who need to be pushed out first?!

I can answer on behalf of brother Teffers, his ideal midfield is
Connolly, Bytel, Byrnes and Phillipou

Who makes way to make us a better side????
Put up time ????
You’re not good at that though …. requires independent rational thought
Unless ofcourse you think the list is top notch ready to challenge?? With Seb Ross morphing into Dusty out of the middle…lol

Must’ve been those last 9 games Seb really stood up and stamped himself as AFL mid super star status?
I missed it.

So my growing list has (in no order)
Webster
Seb
Jones
I’m tempted to add
Butler
Wood
To the list …IF DMac retains his form from previous year he stays if not he’s another …
Time to get serious for a top 4 side
Can’t jeep gifting games to too many GOPs

Re: Who needs to be pushed out for us to really take next step??
The question is not really who gets pushed out, but rather more who steps up to demand being picked in our best 23 players.
Wood for example if he backs up his form of 2022, could well be a player who stays in the 23.
So who can Lyon and our other coaches improve?
Though the other factor is who they think will help us be good from 2024 on.
Who can't fit in. Who does not want to work hard enough.
I mean take Tyson Stengle. A rookie pic by the Tigers. Not so much a player at the Crows, went very well in SANFL in 2021 and then bang at the Cats in 2022 when he was in a good team and good coaching environment.
If our coaching team steps up like we all hope, then we can also hope that some players will also thrive and surprise us. We have quite a few players with good raw talent, but who need to be that bit better to really "arrive" at AFL

Re: Who needs to be pushed out for us to really take next step??
ACTUALLY!...the question is this, how many players on our list would be capable of pushing players out of Geelong's 2022 premiership team.
That is the question.
It is absolutely pointless using the wrong reference point.
Our list is so far off the pace in terms of being capable of winning a premiership therefore when assessing players and their capabilities, it should be done against the best in the comp, not the best in our side.
Perform B.Ms exercise, compare our best 6 against Gelong's bottom 6 in their premiership team.

Re: Who needs to be pushed out for us to really take next step??
Moving fringe players aged 25+ to depth is the key, replace with younger talent with a higher ceiling.
Going down the list:
Ross
Webster
Wood
Crouch
Jones
Billings
McKenzie
Butler
Then, assess some younger players at their career crossroads (perform or delist)
Highmore
Paton
Clark
Coffield
Bytel
Sharman
Byrnes
Connolly
Allison
Note "perform" doesn't mean "become a gun in the senior side", but to meet or exceed improvement expectations.
Of the younger players (18-20 bracket) there's only a few who could step up this year. However, you may wish to take the hit on someone in decline to boost an up and comer.

I thought Ross Lyon made us a better side?
Natural evolution of
Wanganeen Milera, Owens, Windhager
Back from injury
Gresham, Billings, Clark, Coffield, Hayes
What’d we miss the 8 by? 1 game??
Improved depth

Did I say it was ALL the players?
At least be accurate when trying your best to belittle me
Big boy? Hmm resorting to name calling again… sign of desperation
I’ve given you my thoughts
Who needs to ‘make way’
Players who were the worst players last season probably?

Great to get a genuine OPINION on here backed by logic for once
I think this year isn’t about finals it’s about engineering a team that can be top 4 threat in 2-3 years …

Re: Who needs to be pushed out for us to really take next step??
I think in a side that won 11 last season
Ross
Webster
Wood
Crouch
Had excellent seasons and contributed to winning
McKenzie
Billings
Jones
Were injury effected
Butler was OK
All those players - at their best are in the best 22 - and if they are at their best - we are winning games
I would throw in
Gresham and Clark as injury effected
And of course Coffield
Teflon
Name calling doesn’t bother me - it just reflects your person

Re: Who needs to be pushed out for us to really take next step??
I don't mind this discussion. At risk of offending the Seb Ross Fan Club on this forum I agree with all three players nominated, and assuming we're talking mainly about players who have ranked as best 23, I'd add:
4. Billings, and
5. Gresham (at 25 he's at a major crossroad in his career to elevate his game to elite standard)
If McKenzie is fully fit I'd have him taking over Webster's spot as an attacking defender.
There were three debutants in 2022 that I expect will progress to best 23 this year, Windhager, Owens and Wanganeen-Milera, to which I'll add Phillipou who I believe is going to play a lot of games in 2023.
