They were scared by the loss of Green and effectively replaced him with two players. I am scratching my head over Agar's selection...he's hardly bowled. Surely Head, Smith, La Bush & Renshaw could have shared his limited overs.
Morris should have played, definitely. Cummins bats 8.

Selectors dropped the ball massively with this one.
Of all the selection combinations they could have gone with, they chose the absolute worst one.

Re: Scott Boland or Josh Hazelwood?
I always thought that there would be some contemplation following that incredible no 11 99 Agar scored on debut. And a sense of shame that he was propelled from zero to hero at a young age, whence it soon became apparent the ball span out of his fingers super slowly - like so slow you wonder how he could turn it at first-class level. Obviously has some chops in the line, flight*, and length department and since then, must give the ball more revs.
But I wonder if they feel a tad remorseful about the way it went for him. He's nearly 30 now I guess, and it seems, judging by his figures in this test, he has at least been tidy and certainly not terrible. Perhaps too, the captain is not bowling him as much as he could. Why? Again, that feeling that the thing is not fair, and we don't wanna see him getting wallopped across the fence in what could be his last test.
On the other hand, he could take 10 wickets in SAs second innings and win the game! And be a hero..and replace 'Garry' Lyon forever.
*mind you. always thought flight was a factor of revs/fizz, so you create so much air disturbance the ball floats and drifts.

Yeah, 0/58 over the test. Maybe that is it for AA?saynta wrote: ↑Sun 08 Jan 2023 4:36pmNot likely, unfortunately.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sun 08 Jan 2023 2:08pm Take back everything I said

And we bowled four spinners and three pace bowlers for that innings.
When was the last time we tried that...?
Probably, the last time we were going down that "here-comes-a-draw rabbit hole."
